TWICE’s Chaeyoung Apologizes for Wearing Swastika Symbol

TWICE member Chaeyoung has apologized after posting a photo to social media wearing a shirt featuring Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols in a shirt with a swastika, which she has since deleted.

“Hello, this is Chaeyoung from TWICE. I sincerely apologize regarding the Instagram post. I didn’t correctly recognize the meaning of the tilted swastika in the t-shirt I wore,” the K-pop idol’s formal apology, posted on Instagram to her 8.6 million in both Korean and English, reads. “I deeply apologize for not thoroughly reviewing it, causing concern. I will pay absolute attention in the future to prevent any situation similar from happening again. [I] sincerely apologize again.”

This isn’t the first time the K-pop member has worn something controversial recently. Just a week ago, when TWICE performed on South Korea’s music television program Show! Music Core, Chaeyoung sported a QAnon crop top with a large Q in an American flag print with the words “where we go one, we go all.” QAnon is notoriously considered an antisemitic, extremist conspiracy group that is often associated with former President Trump.

Chaeyoung’s controversial shirts come just as TWICE is getting ready to kick off their most extensive tour ever in April, starting in South Korea with 17 stops across the globe, including Australia, Japan, the U.S., and Canada.
