Saints Lock of Weekend vs Texans

It’s the final preseason game and the rough and rugged New Orleans Saints are ready to welcome these young Houston Texans to the NFL. The Saints have looked terrific this preseason thanks to its defense and experienced backup quarterbacks.
Thus, laying three points on them as favorites is quite a bargain on the NFL lines. But the Texans will play their starters so they’re not going down easy.
Texans vs Saints Betting Lines
Welcome to the NFL, CJ Stroud
Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed that rookie quarterback CJ Stroud and Houston’s first-stringers will be starting against New Orleans this Sunday. Buckle up, Mr. Stroud, as the Saints are ready to take you through the ringer.
To Houston’s credit, the team has allowed just one sack this preseason. The team laid a big fat egg in a 28-3 loss against Miami, managing just 186 total yards and a 3.9 yards-per-play average, but they kept their prized quarterback safe. Stroud looked more comfortable in his second outing as he went 7 of 12 for 60 yards.
Stroud is the type of quarterback that will look great if given the time. But that’s a tall task against New Orleans, an aggressive team that lives to pressure its opponents. So it’s worth betting online against Stroud and the Texans.
Saints Ready to Unleash Havoc
New Orleans is a popular NFL picks to win the NFC South and return to the playoffs. This team has a deep quarterback room with the addition of Derek Carr. And while Carr may not play at all this game, Jameis Winston and/or Jake Haener have proven they can get it done.
The Saints are 2-0 in the preseason and looked like bullies in a 22-17 win against the Los Angeles Chargers last week. Expect something similar this time with the final roster cuts impending. This will push New Orleans’s backups to give it their all in hopes of not just starting, but making the team.
Thus, this game could be another one dominated by the defense. The first game was an offensive showcase with a total of 50. The next just went over at 39. But given New Orleans’ stalwart ‘D’, it’s about time this one trends the other way.
Texans, Saints Go Under in Big Easy
And speaking of trends, the total tends to go under in New Orleans. That includes four of the last six games in the regular season. Four of Houston’s last five road games have also gone the same direction.

Texans vs Saints Game Picks and Prediction
Predicted Score: Saints 23 Texans 13
- Lay the Points With Saints
Houston wants to win. But this team’s main focus is to keep its young players, namely Stroud, safe for the regular season. Thus, bet online on the Saints to be the rougher team. New Orleans will want this more and will make push turn to shove, which will fold Houston en route to a potential blowout.
Pick: New Orleans Saints -3 (-110)
- Lock in Saints on Moneyline
Anything can happen in these games. So even if New Orleans is up by double digits, a late rally by Houston’s third-stringers could just blow the spread. It’s unlikely, but those looking for more of a “sure bet” should pursue the moneyline instead.
Pick: New Orleans Saints (-150)
- Like the Trends Say, Go Under
This final preseason game won’t make any kind of NFL news because it will be akin to wading through the swamps of New Orleans: grimy. As such, those avoiding a pick but looking at the total should lean on the under.
