Priority NC State OL target Michael Gibbs breaks down his top 5
NC State offered Michael Gibbs last fall— the first Power Four opportunity for the 6-3.5, 280-pound offensive lineman who released his top 5 schools Sunday night. He holds double-digit Division-I scholarships but will focus on a select few schools moving forward.
Penn State, Virginia Tech, Duke and NC State all made the cut for the No. 3 offensive lineman in North Carolina’s 2025 class. Gibbs has been a top priority for the program for months, and TheWolfpacker.com submitted an RPM pick for the Pack in March.
The lineman, who could play both tackle and guard at the next level, has already visited NC State several times this year, and he will return to campus June 21-23 for an official visit. Before then, he also plans on stopping by Virginia tech June 7 and Duke June 14.
Offensive line coach Garett Tujague is his primary recruiter. The Wolfpack assistant stopped by his school earlier this year and left a lasting impression.
“He has been in the coaching game for so long with such great results and, while some things have changed, coach Tujague remains the same trustworthy, hard working, get-results kind of coach/man/human any parent would want their kid influenced by,” Gibbs said. “He understands what we are going through as a family, searching for what’s next, and consistently pours into that higher level and hopeful direction of football, faith, and family.”
Virginia Tech generated some momentum in his recruitment this spring and, behind the scenes, appears to be the most significant competition. Keep an eye on Penn State if the Big 10 program locks in an official visit with the lineman.
On3 considers Gibbs the No. 36 interior offensive lineman in the nation and the No. 18 prospect in North Carolina’s 2025 class.
He explained why each member of his top five made the cut.

Duke— “Coach [Jeff] Norrid has great vision for that OL and, paired with coach [Manny] Diaz for the team, Duke football is prepping to have an exciting future. Beautiful campus, elite education, gearing up to get football program to meet their basketball legacy. Love our talks and where they see me playing!”
NC State— “The chemistry with me and their coaching staff is huge. The Wolfpack program speaks for itself. The mentality of the Pack is fierce and focused and family. They saw something in me early, and that means a lot.”
Virginia Tech— “The connection with them and the campus as soon as we got there and met people was undeniable. I haven’t even been to a game, and the atmosphere is buzzing with football intensity. It is a true college town, and the Hokies are at the center for everything. The talks with coach [Brent] Pry, coach [Ron] Crook, and coach [Brent] Davis are deep and specific about my development/position I/they see myself in. I appreciate that aspect a lot. My parents love the area and surprisingly there are a TON of Hokie fans/family in Wilmington.”
Penn State— “It’s Penn State. Even with the long drive away from home, and the current news swirling around, their program delivers results—players and coaches alike. The campus, alumni perks, the heritage. That offer was a dream, and coach [Phil Trautwein] is truly a God-fearing, OL master crafter. He has broken my film down and coached me up even as a recruit. That replays in my mind all the time.”
Virginia— “Even though they were later in my recruitment, I have not totally counted them out. Their education is top notch, their fans are seemingly frenzied, and coaches have really conveyed a great culture. While I don’t have plans to visit, I still respect what they do and where their program is headed.”
