With the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty underway, we’re spoiling who Belly ends up with at the end of the original book series.
Season three, which is airing on Prime Video, is based on We’ll Always Have Summer, the third book in Jenny Han’s book series, and reveals which of the Fisher brothers Belly ends up with: Conrad or Jeremiah.
So far, the show has closely followed the first two books in the series, The Summer I Turned Pretty and It’s Not Summer Without You. In the first two seasons, Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) falls for her childhood crush, Conrad (Christopher Briney), all while his younger brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) lusts from afar. After Belly and Conrad break up, she begins a romance with Jeremiah. In season three, two years on from season two, Belly and Jeremiah are happily together until Conrad comes back into the picture.

While we’ll have to wait for the rest of the season to air to discover who Belly ends up with in the show, we do know the book ending, and it may play out the same on screen.

Who Does Belly End up With in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Books?
In the books, Belly ends up with Conrad after a dramatic breakup with Jeremiah on their wedding day.
Shortly before Belly and Jeremiah are due to get married, Conrad learns that his brother cheated on Belly with Lacie and confesses his love to her. Belly shuts him down but tells Jeremiah, causing him to question whether they’re meant to be together.

On the day of their wedding, Jeremiah is nowhere to be found and Conrad is forced to track him down, causing a fight to break out between the brothers. After taking a punch, Conrad tells Jeremiah, “Fine. I love her. I admit it. Sometimes — sometimes I think she’s the only girl I could ever be with. But Jere, she picked you. You’re the one she wants to marry. Not me.”
Conrad gives Jeremiah a letter that their mom, Susannah, wrote before her death, with the intention that he read it on his wedding day. However, it turns out Susannah accidentally swapped the letters and Jeremiah ended up getting Conrad’s one, in which Susannah wrote that Belly is the only person she’s ever seen Conrad love.
Unsurprisingly, Jeremiah isn’t happy. He tells Conrad he can never see Belly again and returns to his wedding. However, before walking down the aisle, he confronts Belly about her feelings for Conrad once again, and insists that he was never her first choice.
“That’ll always be Con,” he says. “I won’t be your excuse. You’ve got to see for yourself, or you’ll never be able to let him go.”
When Belly can’t deny her feelings for Conrad any longer, they decide to call off the wedding.

“It wouldn’t have been right. Not for either of us. Sometimes I wonder if we had rushed into getting married because we were both trying to prove something to the other and maybe even to ourselves,” Belly says in the book. “But then I think no, we truly did love each other. We truly did have the best of intentions. It, we, just weren’t meant to be.”
The book then jumps forward a couple of years to Belly’s wedding day and the letter Susannah wrote for her. It’s revealed that, after reconnecting, Conrad is the one Belly is marrying. He and Jeremiah have reconciled, and the trio celebrates Belly and Conrad’s wedding together before the newlyweds decide to skip their reception and drive to go play in the ocean like they did when they were kids.
The book ends with Conrad carrying Belly into the ocean, telling her, “I go wherever you go.”
Who Will Belly End up With in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Show?
If the show follows the book, Belly will end up with Conrad in The Summer I Turned Pretty. However, Han has hinted that there could be changes.
“There are definitely changes,” the author said in a March interview with Entertainment Weekly. There are surprises. And there are things that aren’t exactly like the books.”
In July, she told Elite Daily that she was open to deviating from the ending of the books in the show. “I always knew how I wanted to end the books. But with the show, I went into it with an open mind. I wanted to approach it with fresh eyes and just see what sort of magic happened on screen. I am somebody who is always changing things up,” she said.
Who Do Fans Want Belly To End up With in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Show?
The Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah debate has kept fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty books and show talking for decades, and there are a lot of mixed feelings about who Belly should end up with in the show’s finale.
When SheKnows spoke to fans of the show, some told us that the show drastically changed their feelings, and they switched from being Team Conrad to wanting Belly to choose Jeremiah. This is something that has also been echoed by fans on Reddit.
Others have debated whether Belly could end up choosing herself and breaking up the love triangle for good. However, some fans will note that this goes against the show’s central focus as a love story.
Needless to say, there is only one way to find out who Belly chooses in the show, and that’s by watching all the way to the finale.
