DWTS fan favorite Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, have had a rough few years. Just a few months after their wedding, she suffered a medical emergency and needed brain surgery. In a new social media post, the couple asks for prayers again amid a health crisis.
Hayley Erbert Feared She’d Never Dance Again After Brain Surgery
Derek Hough and his sister, Julianne, both joined Dancing With The Stars in the early seasons as professional dancers tasked with turning celebrities into dancers. The popular reality show returns this fall for Season 34, but neither of the Hough siblings competes on the show anymore.
Julianne was named co-host alongside Alfonso Ribeiro after Tyra Banks left the show. Derek Hough replaced the late Len Goodman at the judge’s table in 2020. It was through his sister that Derek met his future wife, Hayley Erbert. She was hired to dance on tour with the siblings in 2014 and began dating Derek a year later.

The couple tied the knot in August 2023. But the honeymoon phase was short-lived. In December, Hayley Erbert had a seizure offstage during a tour stop with her husband. She was rushed to the ER and underwent emergency brain surgery.
The dancer suffered a brain bleed. She needed a second surgery to replace part of the skull removed during the first surgery. The couple revealed earlier this year that they’re working on a documentary about the medical emergency.
Dancing is Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert’s life’s joy. They had to face the possibility that she wouldn’t be able to dance after brain surgery. But with time and dedication, she returned to the dance floor. They performed a stunning dance on Season 33 of DWTS.
DWTS Derek Hough & Wife Need Prayers For Health Crisis
Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert returned to ‘normal’ life after the scary brain surgery. But now they’re facing another health crisis. Hayley took to social media this week with a desperate request for prayers again.
In an emotional post, she wrote, “We could use every prayer, every ounce of love, and every bit of healing light today!” She revealed that her stepdad needs surgery to remove a tumor and any lingering cancer cells. She wrote that he was one of the “strongest” and “kindest” souls.
“I believe with all my heart that he’s going to make it through this with the same courage and grace he brings to everything in life,” Hayley Erbert wrote.
The DWTS dance troupe member shared how prayers helped her through her own health crisis. “When I went through my brain surgery, I witnessed firsthand how powerful love, energy, and prayer can be,” she wrote.
Hayley Erbert continued, “They create space for miracles and right now, Jim could use that miracle. Please surround him (and my mom) with strength, light, and all the healing energy we can possibly give. Jim, I love you so much.”
Her social media followers came through, and flooded the comment section with prayers and well-wishes. Hopefully, she will share an update soon after the surgery is over.
