US Lawmakers Condemn Deadly Strike On Russian-Occupied Crimea: 'World War III In Overdrive'
An alleged Ukrainian air strike over a Crimean beach sparked wide-ranging reactions in the US. Meanwhile, several lawmakers in the US including former President Donald Trump had in the past raised questions on funds being allocated for the European nation. A brief statement was issued by Russia's Defense Ministry after the incident. "Responsibility for the deliberate missile attack on the civilians of Sevastopol is borne above all by Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, and by the Kyiv regime, from whose territory this strike was carried out," a spokesperson for Russia's defence ministry said. Russia's defense ministry issued statement further talked about Washington bearing the primary responsibility for the attack and issued a warning that the "atrocity... [would] not go unpunished." Among the people who shared sympathy with Kremlin include several members of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. They have aligned themselves with Moscow's views on the incident, according to a Newsweek report. The US ambassador, Lynne Tracy, was called by the Russian foreign ministry on Monday. Then it released a statement saying that the United States was complicit in an "atrocity" and that it would "not go unpunished."Additionally, the weaponry supplied by the US ie four Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles, equipped with cluster warheads, was shot down by Russian air defense systems, the report by Newsweek informed.
