30 injured after tour bus overturns en route to Niagara Fall

Nearly 30 people were injured, one critically, after a tour bus overturned en route to Niagara Falls early Thursday – forcing first responders to shut down part of the I-490.
The tour bus was traveling from New York City when it rolled over on the I-490 in Chili just outside Rochester, WROC reported.
At least one child was among 28 people hospitalized, with at least one in critical condition, the outlet said.

There were 16 ambulances called to the scene.
“It was surreal, it was things you trained for, but something you don’t expect to see in real life,” Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter said of the chaos.

The crash is being investigated as a criminal matter, thought authorities noted that does not necessarily mean that there were criminal elements at play.
The bus driver – who left New York City around midnight – has been cooperating with the investigation into the accident, and there is no indicated that drugs or alcohol were involved, deputies said.

The bus was left lying on its side with debris scattered around it at the scene, a photo shared by the New York State Police showed.
“To allow first responders to do their jobs, the I-490 is closed in both directions between exits 4 and 3, and drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement about the accident.
“I join the people of New York in praying for the well-being of all involved in this serious incident and am deeply grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders,” she added.
