“The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is currently working an incident at Joppatowne High School,” the sheriff’s office posted on X.
“Sheriff and PIO en route,” the department continued.
Firefighters and EMS are also working the scene, according to the department’s social media.
The incident prompted a heavy response from the sheriff’s department, with dozens of police cars lining the high school parking lot, even landing a police helicopter on the football field.
One person was reportedly taken into custody, according to local NBC affiliate WBAL-TV.
As of now, there is no longer an “active situation,” according to the outlet.
School officials confirmed the incident stemmed from a fight that broke out on the school’s grounds.
“There was a fight on campus to known parties,” the district said.
“A weapon was brought onto campus and used in the incident,” the district confirmed.
Parents responded to the sheriff’s office’s post on X with fears of an active shooting.
However, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office told The U.S. Sun that this was an “isolated incident and not an active shooter situation.”
Police advised people to stay away from the area and urged parents to pick up their children at the nearby Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church.
A line reportedly the length of over two football fields was formed at the church with children waiting to be picked up after the incident, according to WBAL radio.
