Every Ring doorbell user must switch on little-known free feature that could spare them from parcel nightmares
RING doorbell users may be missing out on a useful feature that’s perfect for moments they can’t get to the door.
It’s also quite handy if you have cold callers at your door and want to send them on their way quickly.
Feature is free to use
And this is especially useful for things like parcels you don’t want left on your doorstep.
Ring recently hiked subscription costs and some of its best features are paid for.
Fortunately, Quick Replies is free to use.
This essentially works like an answering machine, allowing users to select from preset messages when they’re away or busy.
You can even select these at a moment’s notice if needed.
While you don’t need a subscription to use Quick Replies, you still need one if you wish to record the person’s response – the only way to see their response for free is by watching in real-time.
You just need to set it up within the Ring Android or iOS app first.
Once set up, whenever someone presses your doorbell they’ll be greeted with the preset message you chose.
Your gadget can tell callers to wait while you get to the door, leave a package outside – and even tell them to simply buzz off.
Once they’ve listened, the visitor has the option to leave a message (if you are a subscriber) that you can catch through the Ring app.
How to set up Quick Replies on Ring
To try out the tool for yourself, open the app and tap the three lines on the top left of your display.
Tap Devices and select the doorbell that you want to set up.
Tap the Smart Responses tile and then toggle the Quick Replies switch so it’s in the blue “on” position.
Select Response Time to set a time between right away or between 2-20 seconds.
Then, tap Quick Reply Message and select a message. You’ll hear a recording of what the message sounds like.
There are some seasonal messages to choose from too, such as Christmas themes.
Tap Save to complete the setup.
Quick replies is available on all Ring video doorbells except the first generation Ring Video Doorbell.
If you’re not sure which model you have, follow these steps:
Tap menu icon
Go to Devices
Select your doorbell device
Tap Device Health
Look for Device Details – your Product Name is under Device Details
How to stop over-active Ring doorbell alerts
IF your Ring video cameras are a little over-active you should try this trick.
Turn on the Geofence feature, which is a virtual perimeter or invisible boundary around a specific geographic location that you define.
Open the Ring app, and go to the menu, which is the three lines in the corner
Now head to Settings
Select Geofence
Here you can adjust the position of the Geofence as you see fit
Tap Confirm
Now set up Auto-Snooze
Choose which devices you want to snooze notifications for
You can also set a Snooze duration
Tap Continue
Then check the Arm/Disarm Reminders – these will alert you to change your Mode when you enter or exit the Geofence
Tap Continue, then Finish & Save
