An Adorable Resurfaced Photo of Bindi Irwin With Her Dad Steve Irwin Gives a Hint Toward Daughter Grace’s Future
At just 3 years old, Grace Warrior is already showing signs that she has inherited her family’s love of wildlife. So when her grandma Terri Irwin shared a childhood photo of her daughter — and Grace’s mom — Bindi Irwin, it feels like we’re seeing into the future!

The adorable, resurfaced picture features the late Steve Irwin standing on the beach with Bindi, when she was a child. They are standing on rocky sand near the ocean dressed in wetsuits. The Crocodile Hunter has black goggles and a snorkel on top of his head, and he is holding flippers for Bindi. She is in a tiny yellow wetsuit, as she smiles for the camera holding her yellow goggles. Her hair is already wet, and she looks like she just had the best day ever with her dad. It’ll absolutely melt your heart!
Terri explained the sweet moment in her caption, which she posted for World’s Ocean Day on June 8. “Steve and @bindisueirwin loved exploring the reefs, snorkeling with underwater creatures, and discovering everything from starfish to sea turtles,” she wrote. “So many beautiful moments and special memories.”
Bindi commented, “Such a special memory. 🩵”

Seeing this photo of Bindi gives us a hint at to what Grace will look like in a few years, snorkeling with her mom and her dad Chandler Powell. (Or even Bindi’s younger brother Robert Irwin, who is the spitting image of his dad!) The toddler already has one special connection to her late “Grandpa Crocodile.” Last month, Bindi shared a video revealing that Grace’s connection to turtles came from Steve.
“The legacy continues …” the Australia Zoo CEO captioned the video, starting with a throwback snap of Steve holding a turtle. “My dad discovered a new species of turtle 40 years ago,” Bindi continues. “Never knowing they would be his granddaughter’s favorite animal.”
She also shared footage of Grace holding the endangered “Elseya Irwini or Irwin’s Turtle.” Bindi adds at the end, “You’d be so proud of your granddaughter, Dad. We miss you.”

It turns out, before he died Steve actually predicted his family’s future love of wildlife. “He would actually go [and] stare [into the fire,]” Terri recalled in an interview with Us Weekly last month. “And [one day] he came in and he goes, ‘We have to have children. Who are we going to leave this all to? We have to have children.’ And I go, ‘Just because you have kids, doesn’t mean they’re going to be interested in what you’re doing.’”
“And he goes, ‘No, we’re having children and they’re going to love wildlife and conservation,’” she added. And he couldn’t have been more right!
