New Costco finance boss confirms fate of beloved $1.50 hot dog combo after axing fears but shoppers claim ‘it’s a trap’
COSTCO’S chief financial officer confirmed news regarding the fate of the retailer’s beloved hot dog combo.
However, shoppers were quick to point out the sneaky reason behind the combo’s price stability.

One of Costco’s food court staples is its hot dog and drink combo.
It comes with a quarter-pound beef hot dog and a 20-ounce soda for just $1.50.
Rumors about the combo’s price change circulated after CFO Richard Galanti retired in March this year, as he was credited for keeping the $1.50 combo price since 1984.
The new CFO, Gary Millerchip, stepped forward to ease fans’ worries amid rising food prices.
On May 30, Millerchip confirmed the combo would remain available at such a low price, at least for now.
“I want to confirm the $1.50 hot dog price is safe,” Millerchip told CNN.
Many Costco fans were relieved to hear the news.
“The biggest news today,” wrote one X user.
“The Costco hot dog is the most stable commodity on earth,” praised another.
However, one Costco fan pointed out the reason behind the CFO’s statement.
He alleged that the warehouse’s low food court costs lure shoppers in to spend money.
“Costco is a trap—you go there to get one thing and end up spending $300 or more. You know what I mean!” he wrote.
CRACKING DOWN
In addition to the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo, other Costco food court staples include the $9.95 18-inch pizza and $2.49 ice cream sundae.
However, the warehouse has been cracking down on who is able to access these food deals.
In March, shoppers began spotting signs in-store notifying them that only members would be able to make food court purchases.
