Like the Lands Between, The Land of Shadow also takes you to an in-game world full of dangerous enemies. Therefore, if you are looking for tips about how to defeat Blackgaol Knight in Shadow of the Erdtee, that’s not at all surprising.
Blackgaol Knight is one of the bosses who is ready to welcome you to this hostile world. Fortunately, the Blackgaol Knight is not a major world boss but a mini-boss who will be pretty easy to tackle with proper strategy.
Before going to the fighting strategy, let’s check out the location of the boss and what weapons you should bring for this fight.
Where to Find Blackgaol Knight in Shadow of the Erdtree?
If you are struggling to locate the boss, check out the map to reach the Western Nameless Mausoleum.
As soon as you begin your Shadow of the Erdtree journey, you will come to an open field that is part of the first region of the game named the Gravesite Plain. The Balckgaol Knight will be found here, and depending on which way you choose to explore the region, he will probably be the first mini-boss to take down.
If you are looking for the Blackgaol Knight, make your way toward the Western Nameless Mausoleum. Now if you are starting your journey from the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace, you have to start moving to the northwest side, but if you are starting your journey from the Scorched Ruin Site of Grace, you have to walk toward the east side.

During this journey, and based on the way you have chosen, you will face several enemies as you approach the Mausoleum, but it is better not to be involved in fighting them and take damage even before the Blackgaol Knight fight begins.
The enemy will be found at the top of the Mausoleum, and fighting is mandatory if you want to explore this location. So, the next section will give you a walkthrough of the boss’s weakness and how you should prepare for this battle.
Shadow of the Erdtree Blackgaol Knight Weaknesses and Required Weapons
The Blackgaol Knight is a tough enemy who’s covered in armor fully. Therefore, strategy must be perfect when you are fighting him.
You must have completed the base game if you are on your Shadow of the Erdtree journey. The Blackgaol Knight is not at all different.

This mini-boss is weak to lightning damage. Apart from this, if you are trying to inflict Sleep, Rot, Poison, or Madness status effects, that’s just a waste of time. The mini-boss is extremely strong against all these. Notably, he’s not even weak enough to bleed damage. Therefore, the only way to take him down is by bringing weapons that will deal lightning damage.
We recommend bringing Greatswords like Darkmoon Greatsword, Royal Greatsword, or the best choice for the fight, Blasphemous Blade. Along with these, don’t forget to bring lightning incantations or weapons skills like Ancient Dragon’s Lightning Spear, Dragonbolt of Florrissax, etc.
Tip
If you want to complete the fight faster, it is best to bring Bloodhound’s Fang, especially for its in-built skill, Bloodhound’s Finesse
Additionally, keep in mind that you have to fight this mini-boss alone. You can’t summon any Spirit-Ash for this battle. Now that you are ready, it is time to face the boss and give him a hard fight without taking much damage.
How to Defeat Blackgaol Knight in the Shadow of the Erdtree
The fireball attack is the toughest one among the attacks the boss will use against you.
If you are preparing for a two-phased fight you have witnessed in Elden Ring, that’s not the case here, at least with this mini-boss. The fight will have a single phase like the Furnace Golems. So, once you emptied his health bar, there won’t be a next stage.
The boss will use two weapons during the fight—a Greatsword and a Crossbow; but these are enough to tear you apart in seconds if you are not attentive. The signature attack of the boss is his overhead strike with the sword, which is followed by a horizontal slash. The only way to save your Tarnished is to roll over to the other side.
However, if you are really quick and skilled, you can even parry his attack. Once you do, the enemy will be staggered for some seconds, opening a window for you to hit him at least one more time.
Tip
It is better not to use basic attacks against this enemy. These won’t be effective against the mini-boss

Anyway, we recommend not trying the parry method with other attacks, like when the boss launches the jump attack. In that case, moved out of his way to avoid getting damaged.
As long as you are close to him, he will attack you with the Greatsword. The moment you roll over and make some distance, the boss will start using the Crossbow. When you find the boss with the crossbow, be careful. The ranged attacks are deadly.
The first and most frequent attack the boss launches with the crossbow is the series of fireballs at you. This is the worst attack, and if these balls hit, they deal significant damage. Try running on either the left or right side. Notably, the boss will come near you while launching this attack. Therefore, it is the best chance for you to hit him and make some distance again.
The moment the boss loses half of his health, he will use Crimson Tears to restore some HP, and that’s something you can’t prevent. Anyway, his attacks won’t change after that. Therefore, you should also keep attacking him whenever you get an opportunity while being careful of your defense.
This fight will take some time and requires patience. Once you win the battle, you will get his Greatsword and armor as rewards.
