‘80s Brat Pack Legend, 61, Wants to Go to Space Despite Controversy

Rob Lowe is eager to participate in a Blue Origin space flight, no matter the potential backlash. The actor, 61, claimed during the Monday, July 28, episode of the “Hot Mics With Billy Bush” podcast that he is in talks with Jeff Bezos’ company about a possible trip to space.“Wouldn’t it be sick?” he pondered aloud.Although Lowe clarified that he has yet to be offered a spot on a Blue Origin space flight, he emphasized that he’d “probably” go if the opportunity arose.🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬“The minute we’re reminded that we are all just citizens of the earth is the minute that we begin to recognize our similarities and our shared humanity,” he said. “I don’t mean to be too highfalutin about it, but I actually really believe that.”Lowe added that he would like to share with others what it’s like to see the earth from space since he thinks it would be “valuable.”Despite his willingness to head to space, Lowe noted that his wife, Sheryl Berkoff — whom he married in July 1991 and shares sons Matthew, 31, and John Owen, 29, with — was not convinced of the concept.Earlier this year, an April Blue Origin space flight with an all-female crew that included Katy Perry, Gayle King and Lauren Sanchezsparked backlash, with critics calling the 11-minute trip frivolous and wasteful.“What are they doing?” Olivia Munn said during an appearance on Today With Jenna and Friends. “I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say. But there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.”“What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous,” Munn, 45, continued. “Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”Perry, 40, seemingly addressed the controversy during an April concert in Mexico City, asking the crowd, “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?”Meanwhile, King, 70, told Extra at the time that former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and astronaut-activist Amanda Nguyen collected data during their flight, insisting, “Every time one of those goes up, you get some information that can be used for something else.”
