Top plays from the Florida Gators 2023-24 season: No. 3
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators basketball team has officially started offseason workouts this summer. Before we turn the page to next season, let’s look back on the top 10 plays of the 2023-24 campaign, with No. 3 up next.
Top plays: No. 3
The SEC Tournament semifinals was the Denzel Aberdeen game. He scored a career-high 20 points and was 4-for-5 from downtown, but also set up a key 3-pointer late in the second half.
After making his fourth steal, the most by a Florida player in an SEC Tournament game since Keyontae Johnson in 2019, the turnover forced by Aberdeen led to a four-point play.
On the ensuing possession, Zyon Pullin came off an angle screen and dished to Walter Clayton Jr., who launched a corner 3. Clayton knocked down the dagger despite Solomon Washington contesting and fouling him in front of Florida’s bench.

The significance
Clayton hit the foul shot — one of his school-record 42 consecutive free throws — to give the Gators an 11-point lead, 86-75, with 3:21 remaining after trailing by 18 points in the first half.
Clayton’s four-point play was the end of a 14-3 run by Florida over a four-minute stretch to go up by double digits. He finished with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting from behind the arc.
The Gators completed the comeback with a 95-90 victory over Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament semifinals, advancing to the conference championship game for the first time since 2014.

Quotable
Florida coach Todd Golden on the second-half comeback:
“I think our defense sparked us in the beginning of the run, get out in transition, get easier baskets. In the second half I thought we did a better job of getting the ball side to side, making them guard the whole floor. Our bigs did a good job of slipping out of the ball screens, caused confusion, let us get downhill. We did a great job of playing off two feet, not over-penetrating and then looking out, and then obviously we shot the ball really, really well today as well, which was the difference in the game.”
