Call-in show: Taking questions from Notre Dame fans on Deuce Knight, Irish football recruiting
In a special Thursday morning bye week show, Mike Singer went solo to take calls from Notre Dame fans about whatever was on their mind when it comes to Fighting Irish football recruiting.
On Wednesday night, Lucedale (Miss.) George County quarterback Deuce Knight announced his flip from Auburn to Notre Dame. This was certainly a hot topic among callers, but it wasn’t the only discussion point.
The show aired live on the Blue & Gold YouTube page Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET. Watch a replay of this week’s show in the video player below.

QB Deuce Knight decommits from Notre Dame football, flips to Auburn
Lucedale (Miss.) George County quarterback Deuce Knight has announced that he’s flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn. He was pledged to the Fighting Irish for over a full year, but things moved fast between him and the Tigers, and he made his decision to switch to Auburn.
Knight took a visit to Auburn at the end of July, which made it clear that the four-star prospect was serious about switching up his pledge. He visited the Tigers for four of their first five home games of the season.
The 6-4.5, 208-pounder was Notre Dame’s highest-ranked commit of the 2025 class. He’s the No. 36 overall player and No. 7 quarterback, according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking.
According to his On3 profile, Knight visited Notre Dame 10 times, but even that number doesn’t justify how much time he spent in South Bend. In June 2024, On3 only reported two initial visit dates for him, but he spent much of the month in town.
Knight was a vocal public recruiter for the Irish. On July 20, Knight said, “It’s not over,” on his Instagram page regarding him and ND continuing their pursuit of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman receiver Derek Meadows, a longtime target who announced his pledge to LSU that day. The situation moved fast from Knight recruiting for Notre Dame to being on flip watch.
During a phone interview on July 8, Knight spoke about where his commitment status stood.
“I’ve always been solid,” Knight stated. “Like I’ve said, at the end of the day, I feel like it’s business, so I don’t want to shut anything down. But I’m going to Notre Dame, though.
“I still talk to Ole Miss and have been talking to Auburn lately, but I don’t have any visits planned,” he said.
Look for Notre Dame to go after a new quarterback to replace Knight, but the timeline is to be determined.
Knight played in 10 games as a junior — three with Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy and seven with Lucedale (Miss.) George County. He started the year in the Volunteer State, where he threw for 627 yards and 2 touchdowns on 57 of 108 attempts, plus 35 carries for 154 yards and 3 scores.
After transferring back to George County, Knight completed 84 of 157 passes for 1,420 yards with 15 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He added 340 rushing yards with 8 scores on 64 carries.
During his sophomore football season, Knight completed 111 of 174 passes for 1,780 yards with 11 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He also added 488 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 54 carries.
Knight is the fifth player to decommit from the Irish this cycle, joining tight end Nate Roberts, EDGE C.J. May, wide receiver Shaun Terry and safety Ivan Taylor. The Irish still have 22 verbal commits, including six top-150 overall prospects.
