Hundreds of products sold at Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Walmart, and more are now included in the BrucePac meat and poultry recall for potential Listeria contamination, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.Only 75 meat and chicken products were initially included in the recall, but on Sunday, FSIS released a 342-page report listing hundreds of recalled products, such as Trader Joe's Lemon Chicken and Arugula Salad and Kroger Caesar Salad With Chicken. Most of the affected products are salads, wraps, and frozen meals with ready-to-eat chicken.On October 9, FSIS first announced that BrucePac, a ready-made meat producer, voluntarily recalled 9,986,245 pounds of their ready-to-eat proteins. FSIS updated the release on Wednesday to note the addition of 1,779,040 pounds of product subject to recall—increasing the total recalled amount to 11,765,285 pounds of meat.FSIS also updated the production dates of the recalled products to May 31 to October 8 and warned that affected products were also distributed in schools.The USDA has listed the recall as class 1, meaning there is a reasonable chance that consuming the affected meat and poultry “will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."While there have not been any reported illnesses connected to the recall, anyone concerned about a Listeria infection should contact a healthcare provider, FSIS advised. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, headache, and muscle pains, which are normally felt within 24 hours and last up to three days.FSIS advises consumers to check their fridges and freezers and throw out any recalled products or return them to where they were purchased.
