New Sentencing Date Given For Fairfield Man In Federal Fraud Case

FAIRFIELD, CT — The sentencing date for Fairfield resident Jesse Foote, who pleaded guilty last year in a $7.8 million federal fraud case, has again been moved, Patch has learned.Foote, 59, pleaded guilty in federal court in Newark, New Jersey last August to a two-count information charging him with conspiracy to violate the Federal Anti-Kickback statute and conspiracy to commit health care fraud.He was scheduled to be sentenced on July 16, but the hearing was postponed, and the new sentencing date is Dec. 17, according to prosecutors.Foote's sentencing has been postponed at least three times; the reasons for the postponements have not been disclosed.Read More:Decision Reached In Federal Case Against Former Banker From FairfieldBridgeport Man Sentenced In Federal Street Gang Case: U.S. AttorneyWestport Man Convicted In Federal Bribery Case: U.S. AttorneysAt his upcoming sentencing, Foote faces a possible maximum of 15 years in prison, and fines totaling $500,000, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greater.Foote was accused of conspiring with overseas telemarking call centers, durable medical equipment suppliers, telemedicine companies, and doctors to submit fraudulent claims to health care benefit programs.The scheme ran from December 2017 to March 2021, and among those scammed included Medicare and TRICARE, through a circular scheme of kickbacks and bribes, which prosecutors said totaled about $7.8 million in fraudulent claims.
