Lisle Chief Resigns In Wake Of Employee Complaint

LISLE, IL — Shortly after he was placed on administrative leave, Lisle Police Chief Kevin Licko is resigning. Licko's resignation comes amid an investigation into a complaint that was filed by an employee, according to village documents. Licko will "have no reinstatement rights and will not seek or accept future employment with, or reinstatement by, the village," per a resolution unanimously approved by Lisle trustees. Per the agreement, Licko will serve as sergeant until Oct. 1, when his retirement takes effect. On April 29, Licko addressed a letter to Village Manager Eric Etmoed that read: "I want to start off by letting you know how much I have valued my experience serving the Village of Lisle as the Chief of Police. I am grateful for all the opportunities the village has provided me to learn and grow. That being said, it is with mixed emotions that I am writing to let you know that I wish to resign my position as Chief of Police effective the end of the day on April 29, 2024. In addition, I plan to retire from the village of Lisle effective Oct. 1, 2024."In early February, Patch got a tip that Licko had been placed on administrative leave. Deputy Chief Tom Dempsey has served as police chief in the interim. The village denied a FOIA request from Patch for more information in March, citing exemptions listed in Section 7(1)(d)(iv) and Section 7(1)(m) of the IL FOIA. Ertmoed told Patch Thursday via email that there had been no finding or final determination in the investigation and that Licko and village officials had agreed to "resolve all related matters and enter into a resignation and retirement agreement that was approved by the Mayor and Board of Trustees on Monday, May 6."
