This Beloved ‘King of the Hill’ Side Character May Be Making a Comeback

King of the Hill’s revival will obviously bring back Hank, Peggy and Bobby, but this family reunion could span well beyond the confines of Arlen, Texas — and the United States, for that matter. While speaking to ScreenRant during San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, King of the Hill co-creator Greg Daniels and showrunner Saladin Patterson teased the return of a beloved side character, hinting that Hank’s Japanese half-brother, Junichiro, just may make an appearance if there are future seasons beyond this one. Junichiro, who was conceived at the end of Cotton Hill’s deployment in World War II, was first introduced during Season Six’s two-part finale, and was most recently spotted attending his half-niece-in-law Luanne Platter’s wedding to Lucky Kleinschmidt in Season 11. When asked about the character’s potential return, Daniels replied cryptically, while Patterson said Junichiro’s fate largely lies with King of the Hill’s fanbase. “I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but that’s a character that’s also dear to all of us,” Patterson explained. “Given the opportunity — meaning, if enough fans show support and we’re able to do the episodes we want to do going forward — there’s a big chance you may see him again.” He added that he’d love to see the character someday take on Tokyo’s iteration of the pop-culture gathering. “Obviously, if we get to go to Comic-Con Tokyo, if anyone from 20th (Century Fox) or Hulu is listening, then there’d be another reason to bring that character back, right?” he joked. From the look of things, King of the Hill viewers could be on board. Back in May, several fans flocked to the show’s subreddit to express just how much they’d love to see Junichiro take on modern-day Arlen. “I like to think he and Hank kept in contact after the episode, seeing as he was at Luanne’s wedding,” speculated one fan, while another suggested that he may be able to bond with a now-grown-up Bobby over Bobby’s passion for Japanese cuisine. “Bobby is apparently a robatayaki chef now, which is a type of Japanese charcoal grilling. So why not?” they wrote. To a third, the mere mention of Hank’s half brother would be more than enough to tie his iconic storyline in a bow. “It would be nice if they just do something small like Hank getting off the phone in an opening scene and telling Peggy that Junichiro said hello,” they suggested. “Keeps it simple, quiet and feels rather on character for them both.”
