Governor Abbott Highlights Texas' Business-Friendly Environment at NYSE Summit
Governor Greg Abbott dropped by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Summit yesterday to sing the praises of the Texas economy, touting his state as a beacon for businesses looking to escape what he dubbed the shackles of high taxes and red tape. At the heart of Houston, Abbott faced a room at the NYSE brimming with more than 150 leaders from various industries and delivered his vision for Texas as a land ripe for business and innovation. "People and businesses continue to move to Texas because we offer freedom and opportunities that you can't get anywhere else," Abbott proclaimed. His remarks were substantiated by a streak of accolades, including snagging the Governor's Cup for an astonishing 12th year in a row for top business relocation and expansion projects, as reported by the Governor's office.
The Governor took this opportunity to shine a light on the legislative successes under his administration, including the largest tax cut in Texas history, which he noted put 18 billion dollars back in the hands of Texans and lined the pockets of the hardworking citizens of the Lone Star State. The creation of the Texas Business Court was also touted as an example of Texas paving the way for corporations to operate with impunity from what the Governor views as a burdensome regulation.
In a display of symbolism at the summit, Governor Abbott was honored with the NYSE Bull Award for his efforts - a trophy he swiftly rebranded as the "Longhorn Award," in a nod to his Texas roots. The fireside chat, moderated by NYSE Vice Chairman John Tuttle, also had the Governor discussing the resilience and fortitude of the Texas power grid, emphasizing collaborations with the energy sector to ensure reliable and affordable power flows to Texas businesses.
Acknowledging the challenges that still lie ahead, Abbott shared updates on the state's response to severe storms lashing through North Texas and beyond. He urged those affected to log their damages on the Texas Division of Emergency Management's website, emphasizing that these reports are crucial for connecting Texans with recovery resources and potentially unlocking federal disaster assistance. "These self-submitted surveys help officials connect affected Texans with recovery resources and assist with determining eligibility for federal disaster assistance," he said, signaling his administration's commitment to a swift and effective response.
