Bethesda Volunteer EMT Facing Sexual Battery Charges: Police

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A volunteer EMT with the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad was arrested last week on multiple charges, including aggravated sexual battery, following an investigation that determined he’d had inappropriate contact with minors dating back to 2004, according to authorities. The Child Abuse Squad of the Fairfax County Police Department began its investigation on July 15, when Child Protective Services alerted detectives of a report by a child who said they’d been touched inappropriately by a man, according to the incident report.“Through their investigation, detectives learned Christopher Dudley, 46, inappropriately touched the minor on numerous occasions,” according to police. “As the investigation progressed, three additional victims were identified, disclosing that Dudley had inappropriate contact with them as well, in incidents dating back to 2004.”From December 2010 until October 2012, Dudley worked as a member of the Bailey’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department in Fairfax County, Virginia, according to authorities. In addition to being a real estate agent, Dudley currently serves as a volunteer EMT with the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad in Montgomery County.Dudley was arrested Thursday and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with eight counts of aggravated sexual battery and eight counts of indecent liberties by custodian, according to police. He is currently being held without bond.Dudley was arraigned Friday morning in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and has a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 5, according to court records.Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Chief Corey Smedley said Dudley has been placed on involuntary administrative leave and is suspended from all MCFRS and BCCRS facilities, activities and systems while the investigation is ongoing, according to a statement obtained by Bethesda Today.“MCFRS takes these allegations seriously,” Smedley said in the statement. “We are fully cooperating with Fairfax County authorities and will conduct an internal investigation into this matter.” The eight aggravated sexual battery charges of a victim under 13 years of age are criminal felonies, which are each punishable by confinement in a state correctional facility for up to 20 years and by a fine of not more than $100,000, according to the Code of Virginia. The eight indecent acts with a child by a custodian charges are also criminal felonies, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison, according to Virginia law.Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victims receive appropriate resources and assistance, according to police.Anyone with information about the case should contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option “4.” Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers by phone at 866-411-TIPS and by web.
