Portable chargers recalled due to burn, injury risk

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — More than 560,000 portable chargers sold exclusively by Costco are being recalled because they can overheat while in use, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh portable chargers have built-in wall plugs and two charging cables.
The following model numbers are being recalled: AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B and AO10FK-C.
There are also date codes printed on the outer surface of the retractable wall plug. The affected four-digit date codes either end in 21, 22 or 23. However, the recalled codes that end in 23 only include 0123, 0923, 1523 and 1723.
myCharge has received 120 reports of the portable charges overheating, of which two resulted in fires causing more than $165,000 in property damage. Costco has also received 115 returns of the portable chargers due to melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding or sparking.
No injuries have been reported.
The portable chargers were sold exclusively at Costco stores nationwide and on Costco.com. While there are no Costco stores in Rhode Island, there are locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Anyone who purchased one of the recalled portable chargers is urged to s top using it and to contact myCharge for a free replacement.
