Pittsburgh-Area School Bus Driver Brought Gun Onto Vehicle: Report
HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, PA — A bus driver for the Hopewell Area School District has been suspended indefinitely after allegedly possessing a gun on the vehicle while students were on board.Hopewell Superintendent Jeff Beltz alerted parents to the Thursday morning incident via a letter, WTAE-TV reported.The letter stated a student witnessed a weapon fall from the driver's possession onto the floor while the vehicle was in motion. The driver allegedly recovered the weapon and put it out of sight while still behind the wheel.The student reported the incident to school officials, who are investigating along with Hopewell Township police.Beltz said the driver admitted under questioning that he was in possession of the gun while transporting students and that it fell to the floor during the bus trip.No charges have been filed against the driver, but Beltz stated he faces legal action.The driver has yet to be identified.
