Delco Fires Emergency Services Director Amid Sex Assault Allegations
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Delaware County's Director of Emergency Services has been fired after he was accused of sexual assault and discrimination by workers.Timothy Boyce was terminated from his role, county officials confirmed Friday.The Delaware County Council voted Friday to terminate Boyce "based on information developed from multiple sources regarding unacceptable behavior in the workplace."Boyce on April 26 was placed on leave "due to allegations of gross misconduct," county officials said in a statement."Since that time, the county gained sufficient information to terminate Mr. Boyce," the statement reads. "County Council is committed to protecting our workforce and part of that commitment is ensuring a fair and thorough examination of any complaints or allegations made by our County team."According to multiple reports, two people who claimed to have worked under Boyce in the department filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.The complaints allege Boyce favored some workers based on "sexist" personal preferences over experience, NBC10 reports.And one of those two workers accused him of grabbing her buttocks and trying to kiss her in 2018, according to Fox 29.Boyce later apologized to the woman via text message, per the Delaware County Daily Times."The safety and security of every County employee is a vital priority of County Council and County management," the county said. "Harassment, discrimination, and retaliation are not tolerated at the County and Council is committed to ensuring that the work environment is safe for all county employees."Officials said Deputy Director Ed Beebe will lead the department."We appreciate and support the critical work of our dedicated Public Safety Staff," the county's statement concludes.
