4 Dedicated Members Of 1 Family 'Showed Up In Force' To Battle Hamptons Blaze: Officials

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The family that fights fires together, stays together. And that was abundantly clear when a fire broke out at a Southampton home on July 16 — and the response was a family affair, officials said.According to Chris Brenner, public information officer for the Southampton Fire Department, the fire was reported at 9:29 p.m. at a home on Downs Path.Although people were home at the time of the fire, no injuries were reported, Brenner said.Multiple RIT teams were called to assist. "Due to the extreme temperatures, we utilized many departments. EMS also saw over 60 firemen go through rehab," Brenner said. The North Sea, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor, East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Amagansett, Flanders and East Quogue Fire Departments responded — and were able to save the home, Brenner said. And among those who turned out to help were not just Southampton Fire Department volunteers — but a dedicated family for whom firefighting is a shared lifetime mission."The Southampton Fire Department is all about family, and at this fire, the Maddock family showed up in force," Brenner said. Mark Maddock, the father and patriarch of the family, is a Lieutenant in the hook-and-ladder company, Brenner said.Family members who turned out together to fight the blaze included Jagger Maddock, Zayne Maddock, Nicholas Maddock, and Mark Maddock."Their son Nick is in the Army and was home for two weeks on leave, when he went to the fire with his brother and father," Brenner said. "He has been a fireman for a few years."Reflecting on the show of dedication, Brenner said, "They're a great family."By 11:37 p.m. the fire was deemed under control by Southampton Fire Department Assistant Chief Fowler. The fire department was under the command of Assistant Chief Ricky Fowler. Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Chief Chris Epley, Assistant Chief Matt Zukosky, and Assistant Chief Colby Gil ran EMS operations. Southampton Town Volunteer Ambulance and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps were assisting at the scene and covering the village district during the fire, Brenner said.Southampton Village Fire Marshals requested the Southampton Town Fire Marshal to assist. The article 4 Dedicated Members Of 1 Family 'Showed Up In Force' To Battle Hamptons Blaze: Officials appeared first on Southampton, NY Patch.
