Adam Caporn is leaving Brooklyn after a three year run, and is being replaced by Dutch Gaitley who worked with Jordi Fernandez in Sacramento. Adam Caporn, the Brooklyn Nets director of development the past two years and Long Island Nets head coach for a year prior to that, has joined an expanding list of Nets staffers who have left the organization following last season’s 50-loss season. The Australian is headed to the Washington Wizards in a similar role under head coach Brian Keefe with whom he had worked in Brooklyn.
As NetsDaily reported Friday night, Caporn left the team in June, replaced by Dutch Gaitley, who had been the development director with the Sacramento Kings where he worked with current Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez and Nets assistant Deividas Dulkys. Gaitley has also worked on the Charlotte Hornets and San Antonio Spurs organizations’ development staffs.
In addition to Caporn, Jeff Peterson, assistant GM under Sean Marks for the past four seasons, is now now general manager with the Charlotte Hornets. In addition, Ryan Gisriel, the director of basketball operations is also now in Charlotte. Matt Tellem, vice-president for strategy and cap management, has joined the Phoenix Suns staff and J.R. Holden, director of scouting operations and Long Island Nets GM has moved to the Detroit Pistons where he’ll work under former Nets assistant GM Trajon Langdon.
There doesn’t appear to be single theme to the departures but a shake-up after a disappointing season would be part of the normal course of events. There have also been reports to changes to the Nets performance staff.
Caporn has been part of Brooklyn’s staff the last three years, first as head coach of the Long Island Nets, then as both development director and assistant coach. He had been included in a Nets press release on the makeup of the coaching staff in May but reports out of Washington in June had him being wooed by Washington’s new head coach Brian Keefe. The two had worked together on the Nets staff for a year. Caporn is also an assistant coach with the Australian national team.
Gaitley worked with Fernandez and Dulkys for two years in Sacramento under Mike Brown. Prior to that, he was development director in Charlotte for four years. He got his start in the NBA in San Antonio, where he rose from intern to assistant coach under Gregg Popovich and worked as well with Sean Marks who was then assistant GM at the time.
He is expected to be in Las Vegas with the Nets summer league team next week.
