Assailant Flees Sex Assault After Victim Calls 911 In North Plainfield: Prosecutor

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A Plainfield man remains at large and wanted by authorities after police say he sexually assaulted a woman who was walking home in North Plainfield on Sunday, July 20.On July 20 at around 2:07 a.m., North Plainfield Police got a 911 call reporting a sexual assault.Officers met with an adult female victim, a North Plainfield resident, who reported being sexually assaulted by an unknown man while walking home on Manning Avenue in North Plainfield, said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and North Plainfield Chief of Police Alan McKay."The victim said that while walking home, the suspect approached her and followed her. The victim tried to flee, sustaining injuries to her palms, knees, and foot, but the suspect caught up to her and eventually sexually assaulted her," said McDonald.While being assaulted, the victim managed to dial 911, causing the suspect to flee the area.An investigation by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the North Plainfield Police Department led to the identification of Oscar Vasquez Barraza, 45, of Plainfield, as a suspect.On July 22, Oscar Vasquez Barraza was charged with second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.Vasquez Barraza’s whereabouts are currently unknown as investigators continue their search for him.
