Loudoun To Explore Additional Early Voting Sites For 2025
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Amidst a packed agenda for the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Wednesday, one of the approved items will explore additional early voting locations in 2025.Supervisor Juli Briskman (D-Algonkian) had introduced the measure to have county staff look into the feasibility of additional satellite early voting locations starting with the November 2025 election. The item was approved unanimously as part of the board's consent agenda.Briskman cited the Loudoun County Electoral Board decision to remove Sunday early voting times and reduce Saturday early voting to two dates. In August, the electoral board had removed Oct. 19 as an in-person early voting date, leaving Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 as the Saturday dates. In 2021 and 2022, the electoral board allowed early voting on Saturdays and one Sunday. But a new board in 2023 removed Sunday early voting. In early September, the Board of Supervisors endorsed a letter seeking Oct. 19 to be reinstated for early voting. The change is affecting a presidential election year, which usually has higher turnout than other election years."This initiative would seek to help alleviate this by providing additional locations at which registered voters in the county can cast an absentee vote," Briskman shared in a social media post after the vote. "For example, I have noted that areas of our county such as Ashburn and Middleburg are a long distance from our current early voting locations."The November 2025 election includes key elections like Virginia governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and Virginia House of Delegates.Loudoun County has four early voting locations, and some are not open during the entire early voting period. For the current Nov. 5, 2024 general election, Loudoun County has been offering early voting since Sept. 20 at the Office of Elections and Voter Registration in Leesburg. Additional locations opening Oct. 21 are Carver Senior Center in Purcellville, Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, and Dulles South Recreation Center in South Riding. Early voting runs through Nov. 2.Under Virginia code, localities must provide in-person early voting starting 45 days before an election, including the first and second Saturdays before the election. According to a report presented to the electoral board on Aug. 15, turnout for the November general election is projected to be up to 80 percent. Loudoun County's elections office has added 20,000 more voter registrations since 2020 and estimates it could add 10,000 more leading up to the November election.Early voting is expected to account for 30 percent of total turnout, which equates to 74,400 voters, the report stated. Another 20 percent of turnout, or 49,600, could be mail-in voters. The remaining 50 percent of turnout is expected from Election Day voting, representing about 124,000 voters.SEE ALSO: More Early Voting Sites To Open In Loudoun County For November ElectionLoudoun County 2024 Primary Voter Guide: Candidates, How To VoteThe article Loudoun To Explore Additional Early Voting Sites For 2025 appeared first on Ashburn, VA Patch.
