Michigan State WR coach Courtney Hawkins extends two offers this week
Michigan State coaches spent this past week scouting prospects from across the country. Spartan wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins stayed close to home, spending most of his time in metro Detroit.
Hawkins visited Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech High School, Belleville (Mich.) High School and Harper Woods (Mich.) High School, among others, this week. During his visits, Hawkins extended two offers and met with another previously-offered recruit.
Hawkins re-offered 2026 four-star Cass Tech wide receiver Corey “CJ” Sadler on Wednesday. Hawkins offered Sadler as a member of Michigan State’s old staff, but he made sure to extend another to Sadler following a workout at his high school. Sadler also holds offers from Alabama, Michigan, Penn State and Florida, among others.
Sadler is a swiss army knife for Cass Tech. He has played wide receiver, quarterback, cornerback and returner in his career. His athleticism is on full display every time he takes the field. Sadler has said in the past that he enjoys playing different positions because it helps him understand the game better.
Sadler has visited Michigan State multiple times, including once this spring. He has yet to schedule another visit to campus, but with his new offer, there’s a chance he could visit later this summer or into the fall.
Hawkins extended his second offer of the week to 2028 Harper Woods wide receiver Deandre Bidden. Bidden represents Hawkins’ first 2028 offer. The soon-to-be freshman showed off his talent during a workout at his high school Thursday afternoon. His skills also caught the attention of assistants from Michigan, Auburn and Indiana, all of whom offered Bidden on Thursday.
It’s still early in the process for Bidden, but Michigan State got its foot in the door early and will likely face stiff competition moving forward.
Hawkins was also able to meet with previously-offered 2027 wide receiver Dakota Guerrant while at Harper Woods. The rising sophomore is one of the top 2027 prospects from the state of Michigan. Michigan is considered the early favorite for Guerrant, but Hawkins has done his due-diligence to stay in the race.
After concluding his three-day Michigan tour on Thursday, Hawkins hit the road for Ohio, where he will spend the weekend. The spring evaluation period is open until June 1.
