In his lone season at Minnesota, averaged 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on 40.3 percent shooting from the field and 39.1 percent from three.
“I think you see a wing with a ton of upside on top of already a pretty developed skillset,” Clippers’ General Manager Trent Redden. “His ability to shoot the ball from three, off the dribble, catch-and-shoot, stationary, and on the move is already pretty high level. He went through some travails in the first half when he first got to campus. I think kind of limited the start of his year to a slow start. You see the second half of the season, at his age, making the impact he did in the Big 10, one of the best college basketball leagues in the country. You can see what the potential will be while already betting on what his skillset is now.”
Christie spoke with ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth on the broadcast, where he says he’s ready he’s already highly motivated.
“I’m just gonna bring a competitive mentality,” Cam Christie said. “Every day, I’m gonna show up. I know I have a lot of work to do, but I have a lot of motivation and a great people behind me to propel me to that point.”

Cam will also join his older brother, Max, in Los Angeles. The elder Christie was in New York with Cam, where the two celebrated his drafting and them becoming NBA brothers.
“It means a lot,” Christie added. “It’s super cool to be NBA brothers. It’s really dope. I thank him a lot for everything that he’s taught me. I’m super excited to get out there and start competing against him.”

The Clippers brought in 74 total players for workouts, but were not able to bring in Cam Christie for a workout given he was projected to be selected 12-14 picks higher, according to a couple of mock drafts.
“He did not work out for us here,” Redden added. “Not surprising. We got lucky that he kind of made his way our direction compared to what a lot of people thought.”
At the age of 18, Christie becomes the youngest player the LA Clippers have drafted since 2005, which was both a point of emphasis, but also a luck of the draw for them.
“It’s the way the board fell and kind of do that, and we also wanted to get the average age of our young guys down to like 25, but one of our goals was to get younger,” President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank joked. “Also, at the same time we were really, really fortunate that Cam was there and that with the board, you take age in account, but we also go best player. And when you’re projecting out, what you’re looking at is what does he look like two, three, or four years from now with shooting being his best skill and a lot to do with it.
“He’s got good size for the position, but he is going to have to get stronger and we’ll have a really detailed development plan. He’s an unbelievable young man, obviously comes from a very athletic family and it’s not just his brother. Both his mom and dad played college basketball. His mom was at Northwestern, his dad was at Wisconsin, Stevens Point, somewhere in Wisconsin. So anyway, but it’s great that he is young and he’s got a big upside.”
The Clippers’ Summer League team is expected to be named in the coming weeks. They’re also expected to open up their Summer tournament on night one, which will likely also be the Summer League debut of Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James.
