Jennifer Lopez slammed for ‘desperate’ stunt on stage at the American Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez has been slammed by some for ‘trying to stay relevant’ after kissing her back-up dancers at the American Music Awards.
Overnight the 55-year-old-singer hosted this year’s awards, which were held in Las Vegas.
Kicking off the night, J-Lo performed a six-minute medley of 23 songs by the other artists nominated – including Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso, Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club and Beyonce’s Texas Hold ‘Em.
However, during the medley, she also snogged a male dancer and then a female dancer.
Soon after, comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish appeared on stage and addressed the moment.
‘How cool is it to have a total superstar like J.Lo hosting the AMAs?’ the 45-year-old declared.

‘Our host has just danced to 23 hits in six minutes. Just from that opening number alone, Jenny from the Block has got all her steps in for the day, and she got all her kisses in.
‘Save a dancer for me, J-Lo. Damn! You ain’t the only one out here single,’ she added before announcing the winner for the Favourite R&B Song category.
Despite Tiffany singing J-Lo’s praises, some viewers made it clear they thought it was too much.

However, others lapped up the performance, calling it ‘incredible’.

In a red-carpet interview with Variety after the show, J-Lo proudly told Variety that the idea for the gay kiss was hers. ‘It was mine,’ she said while giggling.
Earlier this year, J-Lo’s divorce from ex-husband Ben Affleck was finalised.
The former couple, dubbed Bennifer, were maried in two separate ceremonies in 2022, a year after getting back together. They had previously been engaged in the early 2000s but broke up and each went on to marry Marc Anthony and Jennifer Garner.

In August last year the singer filed for divorce on their two-year wedding anniversary.
Then, in January, a source said she was now in a much better place after a ‘nightmare’ ending to their love story.
‘The fairy tale she was promised turned out to be a nightmare in the end,’ they told People Magazine.
‘She’s in a really good place and just wants to close the door on this crazy chapter.’
Last year J-Lo was left ‘devastated’ after cancelling the US leg of her This Is Me… Live tour.

Ticketing company Live Nation announced the 2024 summer tour was cancelled, saying the singer is ‘taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends’.
Soon after she released a statement that said she was ‘completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down.’
However last night she revealed she was returning to Las Vegas with a new residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
The show – titled Jennifer Lopez: Up All Night Live in Las Vegas, will open in December.
