Crypto exchange Binance announced on March 31 that its philanthropic arm, Binance Charity, and co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) will provide targeted assistance to users impacted by the recent earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. The non-profit organization will distribute up to $1.5 million in BNB token vouchers to Binance and Binance TH users, based on verified identity (KYC) or proof-of-address (POA) data submitted before March 31. The announcement states:
Binance Charity, supported by Binance co-founder CZ, will airdrop up to $1.5 million in BNB to users in Myanmar and Thailand affected by the recent earthquake, based on their KYC or POA information.
The funds will be accessible via users’ Reward Hub accounts no later than April 14.
Users in Myanmar will receive either $5 or $50 worth of BNB, depending on their verification level and whether they reside in the most impacted zones. Thai users on the “Gulf Binance” platform are eligible for $5 or $10 in BNB, similarly based on location and verification.
CZ underscored the speed and efficiency blockchain can bring to humanitarian efforts. “In times of crisis, every second counts,” Zhao said, adding:
Blockchain and digital assets have provided an effective and efficient means of delivering financial aid to disaster victims. We encourage more people to join us to lend a helping hand to those in need and the less fortunate at this critical moment.
This initiative follows Binance’s broader strategy of leveraging digital tools to enable rapid disaster relief. Past campaigns by Binance Charity have included aid distribution in countries like Libya, Argentina, and Vietnam. The group continues to advocate for blockchain as a transparent, scalable solution for delivering emergency assistance, especially where traditional infrastructure is strained or disrupted. By offering direct digital disbursements, Binance aims to ease the financial burden on victims during periods of upheaval and uncertainty.
