Monday’s Morass: What If USC Has The Numbers
The Trojans 2025 recruiting class sits at No. 3 nationally and has some of the best athletes in the country getting ready to visit the USC campus. With the official visits ready to kick off this coming weekend, Lincoln Riley’s staff is going to be one step closer to a No. 1 class.
What if USC’s 2025 recruiting class finishes tied with Ohio St?
The Buckeyes and Trojans have the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked classes in the nation, respectively. However, when it comes down to who has the most elite players committed, both programs are tied with three 5-stars a piece.
The tie for the lead going to change before everything is all said and done.
Next weekend will kick off USC’s official visits season and Lincoln Riley along with his coaching staff, which is “considered second to no one,” will be looking to add more top-end talent to its roster. When it comes to recruiting, optics matter.–And so do healthy competition and winning games.
The Trojans have more 5-stars visiting this summer with the majority of them playing on the defensive line.
If the Trojans do plan on having the best roster money can pay for in 2025, it will largely be determined by the on-field results that D’Anton Lynn and Eric Henderson’s side of the ball produce.
What if USC football had a 20 million dollar annual salary cap?
And what if that was just the player’s cut of the revenue-sharing pie?
I did the math. If all things are equal, 20 million divided by 85 scholarships comes to roughly $235K per roster spot. Where do I sign up?!!
If the NCAA was once thought of as the Wicked Witch of the West, then the witch is dead. That house the NCAA built finally fell on itself under its weight, and now the universities have the power to pay students to attend directly.
The details still have to be sorted out, however, if you’re a good high school football player and you want to work while you’re killing time in between classes, then maybe a $230K salary per year is a job to consider.
What if USC goes with a 2-quarterback system in 2024?
This is a popular offseason question with the local talking heads. In fact, it was No. 46 out of the top 100 questions coming from the minds of WeAreSC.–Does Lincoln Riley create an offensive package for Jayden Maiava to run and utilize his legs? Probably not totally necessary, but it would be an interesting wrinkle for sure.
The old saying goes, if you’re playing two QBs it means you don’t have a true No. 1.
USC did not bring a quarterback in with its 2024 recruiting class, and Julian Lewis is committed to the 2025 class.
What happens this season could go a long way in determining what happens in the future. Moss still has 2 more years of eligibility, and Maiava has at least 3 more.–Next season’s QB room could very talented and very crowded.
What if Miller Moss has a better year statistically throwing the ball than Caleb Williams had in 2023?
Caleb Williams threw for 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2023.–The Trojans finished the season 8-5 including their win over Louisville in the Holiday Bowl.
Miller Moss had 7 touchdown passes and just one interception during the season. While no one predicts that Moss will average six TDs per game, he does have an opportunity to put up bigger numbers with a deeper WR corp in a new conference that is not used to an uptempo throw-to-set up-the-run type of offense that USC uses.
If Moss can have a better statistical season, it will most likely mean the Trojans are winning more games than they’re losing. It should also mean a seat in New York for another USC quarterback. Lincoln Riley has coached and developed three Heisman Winners and Moss could be Riley’s 4th as well as the Trojans 4th QB to win the award as well.
