Joe Exotic of Tiger King fame has made headlines trying to escape his life behind bars with a presidential pardon. Recently, another political figure recently offered their support in helping Exotic receive his pardon. However, the politician also shared what has to be done first.
Joe Exotic’s Sentence Was Previously Reduced By One Year
Joseph Allen Maldonado, better known as Joe Exotic, was previously known for operating the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma. In 2018, Exotic was arrested on suspicion of hiring two men to murder alleged rival Carole Baskin.
The following year, Exotic was convicted and sentenced to 22 years in prison, which was reduced to 21 years in 2022. At this time, he is scheduled to be released on March 18, 2036. In 2020, many were introduced to Exotic’s story through the Netflix series, Tiger King.

As previously reported, Exotic has expressed hope that he could see his sentence shortened with a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump. This once again became a topic of discussion when various prominent figures were granted presidential pardons back in May, including Todd and Julie Chrisley of Chrisley Knows Best fame.
Recently, another politician has offered their aid in helping Exotic receive his presidential pardon. Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert offered to bring Maldonado’s name up in upcoming discussions of presidential pardons.
Boebert was asked about Exotic while talking with Alex Stein on the Prime Time with Stein show. At the time, Stein referred to Exotic’s situation as “cruel and unusual” and “un-American.”
As Stein shared, “You become the number one hit show, and you’re locked up in jail so you don’t even get to use it in your criminal defense. You don’t get to use it for any good that you might do out in the community.”
Lauren Boebert Has Confirmed Whether Or Not Joe Exotic’s Team Already Reached Out To Her
According to Stein, second chances were important. He continued, “I just feel like that is cruel because if we really do have a criminal justice system .. what is the whole basis of America? It’s about second chances. About ‘hey you make a mistake you get back up.’ That’s the American dream.”
For her part, Boebert, who confessed to being a fan of the Netflix series, promised to take any pardon request seriously. However, she added she needed to learn more about the conviction first.
Boebert shared, “I haven’t read into the actual charges. I’ve watched the show, certainly, so what he was actually convicted of? Put that before the pardon team and I’m sure they’ll see this and have conversations with me and many others.”
The congresswoman also confirmed that Exotic and his team reached out to her. She explained, “Joe Exotic has reached out to me – or at least his team has in the past and other members of Congress for sure.”
According to Radar Online, Trump isn’t the only political figure that Exotic has reached out to for help regarding his sentence. Other figures include Attorney General Pam Bondi, Matt Gaetz and former president Joe Biden.
