Repair Of Bridge Over Saddle River In Bergen County Could Take A Year
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The 121-year-old Passaic Avenue Bridge over the Saddle River has closed for repairs that may take up to a year, said the head of a non-profit organization located near the bridge. The CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County said in a memo to employees, volunteers, renters, and "Bingo Players" that they will have to use detours to get to the Lodi Clubhouse for events.Their main parking lot entrance will be open during most of the project, Joseph Licata said."This project will certainly impact the flow of traffic and pedestrians accessing our facility," he said in the late April memo, found here. The bridge opened in 1903 and helped carry vehicles over the river in the growing industrial area. It's been repaired several times, but this time, it'll be demolished and replaced. (See a bridge history and photo here.)The county of Bergen said, "This project encompasses the replacement of the above referenced bridge (No. 020031B), including the demolition and replacement of the existing superstructure, replacement of the approach roadway and installation of new substructure behind the existing abutments and utilities that are to remain-in-place to meet current AASHTO/NJDOT standards. The project will require the bridge to be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the construction duration. Therefore, a vehicular and pedestrian detour will be established."Find out more about the project here. The article Repair Of Bridge Over Saddle River In Bergen County Could Take A Year appeared first on Mahwah, NJ Patch.
