Borscht Belt Throwing First Year Anniversary Party In Newtown
NEWTOWN, PA — The Borscht Belt will celebrate its first anniversary in Newtown by throwing a party on Saturday. The day will feature a live disc jockey from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., specials, children’s activities, giveaways, balloons, and more. The restaurant will also be debuting its latest collaborations with Nina’s Waffles, including a limited edition Triple Berry Challah French Toast available at the Borscht Belt and at Nina’s locations.“We’re also reintroducing our Matzah Krak, which sold out quickly” during Passover, said deli co-owner Mike Dalewicz. “And we will introduce our new You Bet Syrup And Chocolate Babka with ice cream.”The authentic Jewish deli relocated to Newtown Township from Stockton, New Jersey, in 2023, officially opening at the end of May at the Village at Newtown shopping center a few doors down from the Newtown Farmer's Market. According to Dalewicz, the past year has been a challenging one for the deli with the rise in antisemitism sparked by world events and a fight over its Borscht Belt neon sign.“We fought. We battled. We had some lows. We had some highs," said Dalewicz. "We’ve had a lot of great community support from Newtown. More importantly, we have learned and have grown.”Part of that growth has been listening to what its customers want.So beginning in June, the owners will roll out a more cost-effective menu as part of a rebrand of the deli."We don't want to be just a special occasion place. We want to be an everyday place," said Dalewicz. "Like Seinfeld had its diner and Cheers had its bar, we want Newtown and the surrounding areas to think of the Borscht Belt as their place to be.”As part of a rebrand, the deli will start marketing itself as a "Diner, Deli and Bagels," switching its vibe to more of a community diner feel with great foods.Looking ahead to Father’s Day, the Borscht Belt will bring a Frank Sinatra stylist to the deli to entertain dad and the family. Chef Nick will also feature the RPG (roast pork on garlic bread), a sandwich made famous by Herbies in the Catskills. With the start of the summer travel season, the restaurant will also be introducing its Borscht Belt Beach Boxes. For $20, you get a sandwich, cole slaw, a pickle, a bag of chips and Dr. Brown’s, "which you can take with you in a box to the beach," said Dalewicz. The article Borscht Belt Throwing First Year Anniversary Party In Newtown appeared first on Newtown, PA Patch.
