31-Year-Old Man Guilty In Hartford Killings: State
HARTFORD, CT — A 31-year-old New Britain man was convicted in Hartford Superior Court Thursday for killing two young men in Hartford back in 2016.Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin said a Hartford Superior Court jury found Brandon Letman, 31, guilty of two counts of murder; murder with special circumstances (multiple victims); and three counts of tampering with a witness.The convictions stem from the 2016 fatal shootings of Ashley Spence, 21, and Cameron Mounds Jr., 19, in Hartford, authorities said. According to evidence at trial, Hartford police responding to a call on Enfield Street in Hartford on June 21, 2016, found the victims outside suffering from fatal gunshot wounds, Griffin said. In 2019, Letman was charged in connection with the case following a joint investigation by the Cold Case Unit of the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office, the Hartford Police Department, and the Connecticut Department of Correction. The investigation included following up with multiple witnesses who had information about the fatal shootings, authorities said.Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney John F. Fahey, head of the Cold Case Unit, and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Robin Krawczyk, who both prosecuted the case, commended investigators in the Cold Case Unit, the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office, the Hartford Police Department and Connecticut Department of Correction.“We in the Cold Case Unit, as well as members of the victims’ families, are grateful to the jury on this case who listened attentively to the evidence and deliberated carefully in arriving at this verdict," Fahey said. “We are also grateful for the jury’s careful consideration of the witness tampering charges. Witness tampering interferes with the administration of justice and jurors recognized that and held the defendant accountable.”Judge Michael J.
