Outer Banks YMCA swimmers make waves at Jordan Lake Open Water Challenge
A spirited group from the Outer Banks Family YMCA made quite a splash at the 2024 Outer Banks Veterinary Surgery Jordan Lake Open Water Challenge on May 19, 2024. Battling cold, choppy waters, 145 swimmers took on the challenge, including several YMCA members, swim team participants and staff from the Outer Banks YMCA.
Finnegan Davis, 15, secured third place overall among females in the 2K, while her brother Cormac Davis, 17, mirrored her achievement with a third place overall finish among males in the same race. Makayla Jennings, 13, also shone brightly, clinching third overall among females in the 1K.
YMCA lifeguard John Donlan proved age is just a number by finishing third overall in the male 65-69 age group for the 2K. YMCA member and First Flight High School women’s swim team coach Robert Trivette took the Top Master title in the 2K, and his daughter, Emmy Trivette, dominated the 1K, finishing as the first overall female.
Another dedicated member, Elaine McCracken, showcased her prowess by finishing first overall among females aged 60-64 in the 2K. YMCA senior program director Sam Wills also completed the race, jokingly proud to say she didn’t come in last.
The Y team brought enthusiasm and community spirit to the event, showcasing their dedication and love for the sport.
