Macaulay Culkin Says He Cried When Brother Kieran Won the Oscar: ‘There Was No Way He Was Not Going To’ | Video

Macaulay Culkin had all the faith in the world his brother Kieran would win an Oscar.
While talking with Vanity Fair Spain following the show on Sunday night, Culkin was asked if he had seen his brother since he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in “A Real Pain.” He admitted he had not because, “He’s busy, he’s Academy Award winner Kieran Culkin!” He did reveal he shed a tear watching his brother win from the crowd though.
“I cried and I was like ‘I’m going to see you later,'” Culkin said.
Culkin added when asked if he thought his brother would win, “He was front row, aisle, closest to the stairs. There was no way he was not going to win.”

Culkin was the heavy favorite to win the award so his brother was right to expect it. What was less expected was during the actor’s acceptance speech he sprung a promise his wife Jazz Charton made him in the off chance he ever won an Oscar.
“I have to thank my wife, Jazz for absolutely everything, for giving me my favorite people in the world. This is, please don’t play the music, because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz,” the actor said, before sharing a brief anecdote with the audience. “About a year ago, I was on a stage like this, and I very stupidly publicly said that I want a third kid from her, because she said, if I won the award, she would give me the kid. It turns out, she said that because she didn’t think I was going to win. But then people came up to her and were like, you know, really annoying her.”
“But anyway, after the show, we’re walking through a parking lot, she’s holding me, and we’re trying to find her car … And she goes, ‘Oh God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid,’” he continued. “And I turned to her and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’ And she turned to me, I swear to God this happened, this is just over a year ago. She said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’ I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now. You remember that, honey? You do? OK. Then I just had this to say to you, Jess, love of my life, who gave little faith, no pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again, and let’s get cracking on those kids. What do you say?”
The Best Supporting Actor Oscar was Culkin’s first nomination and first win at the show.
