‘Hierarchies Are Different’ – Solid Take Silences Wild Rumors on Iga Swiatek’s Psychologist’s Influence Sparking Coach’s Abrupt Exit
Not many would’ve thought that Iga Swiatek and her ex-coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, would meet such a saddening end. In the three years that they were together, the Polish star won multiple Grand Slam titles along with a host of other titles. However, with the results not going her way of late, Swiatek announced a shocking split with her compatriot. As soon as she announced her separation from Wiktorowski, several rumors began floating on the reason behind the end of their partnership after years of success together. One among them was the involvement of Swiatek’s psychologist, Daria Abramovich.
Several experts, including the likes of Jan Tomaszewski, pointed to the fact that Abramovic has been a crucial decision-maker in Swiatek’s team and she might be the reason why Wiktorowski left the team. However, another expert, Tomasz Wolfke, defended Swiatek’s psychologist amid the coaching controversy.
He said, “After all, there is no such thing as a canon, what a tennis team should look like. I agree that usually the first violin is played by the player, and the second is played by the coach. Only then are there is a physical preparation coach, a doctor, a nutritionist, a psychologist, a PR man, a contract manager… However, the hierarchies are different.”

Additionally, Wolfke also pointed out how Swiatek’s team was different. It is headed by Swiatek’s father, who is a crucial member in decision-making. Thus, he rubbished the role of Daria Abramovich in Tomasz Wiktorowski’s ouster. Instead, Tomasz Wolfke pointed fingers at Swiatek for her separation from her long-time coach.
Wolfke calls out Iga Swiatek’s ‘one-dimensional’ tennis
While Iga Swiatek is no stranger to winning, she often seems to struggle on grass and hard courts. Despite immense success on clay courts, the Polish star hasn’t been able to replicate that form on other courts. As a result, she was left with massive scope for improvement, something which wasn’t possible with Tomasz Wiktorowski.
Expressing concerns about Swiatek’s game, Wolfke added, “Recently there have been reservations about Iga’s playing style. I even always said in an open text that her tennis is too one-dimensional, but you can’t have a grudge against her either, because there is also a tennis school that says that we practice painfully what we do best and beat everyone with these two or three strokes, just like in the case of Iga.”
In order to improve her game further, Swiatek has been in search of a foreign coach. Many names have come up, including the likes of renowned coaches, Brad Gilbert and Wim Fissette, both of whom are available after separation from Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka, respectively. For Swiatek, it is imperative to end her search for a new coach quickly and finish the 2024 season on a high.
