Four-star EDGE Mariyon Dye talks Larry Johnson, J.T. Tuimoloau at the On3 Elite Series
NASHVILLE – Four-star (Ind.) Elkhart EDGE Mariyon Dye established himself as one of the top defensive linemen in the 2025 class after a strong junior season. Now his recruitment is exploding this offseason.
Dye, the No. 40 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to On3, has official visits scheduled to Purdue, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State and Tennessee, but the Buckeyes currently hold a commanding lead on the On3 RPM.
Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson has been recruiting Dye as a priority, and he, along with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, were some of the first college coaches to visit Elkhart this spring.
“It was great,” Dye told Lettermen Row. “You know, my mom loves their coaching style. I love their coaching style. It was for sure a great visit.”
Johnson and Knowles have not only been building a relationship with Dye but also with his mother, which could end up being a big benefit for the Buckeyes.
“Yeah, it helps them a lot,” he said, “because, you know, family is really the most important thing to me, for sure.”
Dye will take his official visit to Ohio State the weekend of June 14-16 and is looking forward to spending time with the people in the program, both players and coaches.
“I’ve been down there like two times already so I have really seen a lot,” Dye said. “I just want to really get to know the coaches better, get to know some of the players better, too.”
Dye already has a close relationship with one Ohio State player in particular, defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau.
“I met J.T. I talk to J.T. a lot,” Dye said. “He has really just been telling me like if I was to come here, just come in, work and you’re gonna play right away.”
The other thing that Dye is hoping to learn more on his official visit to Columbus is how he fits at Ohio State, both on and off the field.
“Like is that a place I can live after football, and how they would use me,” Dye explained. “I want to see how they plan to use me more, how I fit in their schemes more and really just get to know coaches more.”
Dye was named to the “On3 Elite Series All Lobby Team” by the On3 scouting staff after having some of the most impressive measurables of any prospect in Nashville. Here is what On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote about Dye.
“Mariyon Dye may have been the “first off the bus” prospect on hand. The Elkhart (Ind.) Central prospect measured in at 6-foot-4.75, 268 pounds. Dye had the longest arms on hand at 35.5 inches, along with an elite 7-foot-1 wingspan to go with a 10-inch hand. A jumbo athlete with elite length to go with plus athleticism, Dye is one of the more physically-gifted prospects in the 2025 cycle. Official visits to Purdue, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State and Tennessee are on tap.”
