Ultra-Cyclist Kicks Off Worthwhile Wear's “Act Challenge” In Plumstead
PLUMSTEADVILLE, PA — Worthwhile Wear Ambassador and ultra-cyclist and Race Across America (RAAM) participant Michael Phillips of Prevail Racing visited Worthwhile Thrift in Plumsteadville earlier this month to take part in a 50-mile training ride with Dan Emr, founder of Worthwhile Wear. They were also there to help kick off Plumstead Christian School’s participation in the “Act Challenge” to benefit Worthwhile Wear’s work on behalf of human trafficking victims.More than 375 students and faculty members from Plumstead Christian School are participating in the Act Challenge over the next several weeks. The training ride was one of many that Phillips will do in preparation for RAAM, a 3,000-mile race from Oceanside, California, to Atlantic City, New Jersey, that will take place from June 11 to June 23, with a 12-day time limit. Phillips is one of 28 elite cyclists participating in the race. His chosen cause to support during RAAM is Worthwhile Wear’s “Act Challenge.” The training ride coincides with the kickoff for Worthwhile Wear’s “Act Challenge,” which takes place from now through July 30, which is “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.” People nationwide are invited to walk, bike, run, swim or even kayak to support survivors of human trafficking. Ultra-cyclist and Race Across America participant Michael Phillips and Dan Emr, Founder of Worthwhile Wear, helped kick off Worthwhile Wear’s “Act Challenge” at Plumstead Christian School on Friday, May 3. The Act Challenge takes place from May 1 through July 30, raising money to support services for human trafficking victims. More than 375 students and staff participated. One part of our mission is to teach our students to ‘serve effectively,’ said Sharon Nusser, principal, Plumstead Christian School. “Walking for Worthwhile Wear is a great example of how we put this goal into action.""Often, when people learn about the issue of Human Trafficking, they feel defeated or overwhelmed, but we love to share that there is hope,” said Dan Emr, the founder of Worthwhile Wear. “We have the joy of walking alongside survivors as they heal, and start anew with the understanding that they have value and worth.” Emr continued, “We started the Act Challenge in 2020 as a way to invite our larger community to be part of the solution. When people learn about trafficking, or hear an inspiring story of healing and hope, most people wish to act and get involved which is why it’s called the Act Challenge. You don’t need to be an ultra-cyclist racing across America to raise awareness; everyone, everywhere, can join with us in this important effort, and together we can act to let the survivors know that they are WORTHWHILE.”The article Ultra-Cyclist Kicks Off Worthwhile Wear's “Act Challenge” In Plumstead appeared first on Doylestown, PA Patch.
