Wilton Inland Wetlands Commission Reviews Tree Removals, Pool Plan, And Fines For Permit Violations
WILTON, CT — The Wilton Inland Wetlands Commission held a hybrid meeting on July 24, during which members approved new construction projects, reviewed corrective actions for prior violations, and imposed additional fines for noncompliance with town orders.Commissioners unanimously approved an application for a new semi in-ground pool and patio at 98 Thunder Lake Road, with conditions requiring sedimentation and erosion controls to be reviewed by staff and the town engineer. The applicant, Nejame & Sons, outlined plans to replace an existing pool and add 286 square feet of pervious coverage.At 1 Silvermine Woods Road, the Commission requested a mitigation planting plan for unauthorized clearing near a watercourse by the Silvermine Club Leasing Corp. The plan is expected at the Commission’s next meeting on August 14.Another corrective action involved the unpermitted removal of 11 trees at 88 Danbury Road. Property owner Robert Scinto said he was unaware a permit was required and offered to plant replacements. Commissioners requested a 2-to-1 tree replacement ratio and a formal plan by August 14.An application to add an extension and drainage improvements at 138 Whipstick Road was approved, pending submission of a final stormwater management plan.For a proposed septic upgrade at 278 Rivergate Drive, the Commission asked for a legible plan with erosion control details, to be reviewed next month.Three new applications were received but not yet reviewed:WET#3030 for porous asphalt and stormwater improvements at 68 Westport Road,WET#3031 for the removal of 26 trees at 159 Rivergate Drive, which may be upgraded to a significant permit, andWET#3032 for deck and patio repairs at 341 Newtown Turnpike.One minor activity at 99 Bald Hill Road was approved administratively, involving the replacement and expansion of a deck and staircase.Commissioners imposed a $500 fine against Comunidad Cristiana Vida Abundante at 531 Danbury Road, citing continued noncompliance with a cease-and-desist order issued earlier this year for unauthorized stream clearing.
