They say, or at least they used to say, “A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” But let’s face it. The way to anyone’s heart can be through making them something to eat that they love. But having someone propose marriage because of a well-executed recipe—that’s a bit harder to accomplish. Still, people try. A deluge of “Marry Me” recipes have popped up recently, inspired by the viral Marry Me Chicken smothered in garlic, cream, sun-dried tomatoes, and Parmesan cheese sauce. Of course, someone will fall in love with you, even momentarily, during the first bite when you place that in front of them.That irresistible flavor combination was quickly reimagined into other dishes such as Marry Me Soup and Marry Me Shrimp Pasta. But what if the object of your affection prefers something sweet rather than savory? There’s a recipe for that, too: Marry Me Blueberry Pie. Since blueberries are in season, it’s the perfect time to discuss it. What Is Marry Me Blueberry Pie?Marry Me Blueberry Pie is a straightforward, fresh blueberry pie with a homemade crust. Submitted by Allrecipes member JERKIE3, the pie is so good that taking it to a party resulted in a proposal. JERKIE3 doesn’t say if they accepted the proposal or even knew the person proposing, but the pie got someone thinking of wedding bells.
“I had a man propose to me after tasting this pie at a party. Yes, it's that good,” writes the pie maker in the recipe’s intro. “The secret is my grandmother's super-flaky pie crust recipe. Best with fresh blueberries or dewberries.”We imagine that you can make this pie with a store-bought crust, but we’re fairly certain that if you want a proposal, the homemade, super-flaky pie crust passed down from someone’s grandmother is what seals the deal. Fortunately, according to member Cynthia Romero, who reviewed the pie, this is the “best crust recipe! So easy, too.”How to Make Marry Me Blueberry PieIf you’ve never made homemade pie crust, don’t let it scare you away. It’s much easier than you may think and less expensive than buying premade. Making this grandma-approved crust is as simple as combining self-rising flour, vegetable oil, and water. There’s no chill time with this crust. Once you’ve mixed the dough, you can immediately roll out the top and bottom crusts.The filling consists of blueberries, white sugar, all-purpose flour, lemon juice, and salt. Pour the filling over the bottom pie crust in the pie pan. Top with the second crust and cover with pats of butter. Crimp the edges together and bake. From start to finish, the hot, bubbly, irresistible blueberry pie is out of the oven in a little over an hour. Here are just a few of their helpful hints:Christina, who raves about the pie, is “Very, VERY good!” she decided after making the pie that she would reduce the sugar by about ¼ cup, just because it’s her preference. Bridget Flannery Clary, on the other hand, “didn’t find this filling too sweet since the crust (wonderful and flaky, omg!) had no sugar in it.” She also switched out the all-purpose flour in the filling for cornstarch since that’s all she had, and it thickened the filling up just as well. Several members used more blueberries than what was called for. SWEENEYSMSM even doubled the amount in the ingredient list. Cynthia Romero added peaches to the blueberries to make a peach blueberry pie. Ttkc prebaked the bottom crust, a method called blind baking, to ensure it was crispy. JediMom had to increase the baking time by 15 to 20 minutes for the filling to cook all the way. Although many of our members tweaked it a bit here or there (it’s what we home cooks do!), overall, this pie got rave reviews. How rave?
