The five-star report: Where Auburn stands with five-star recruiting targets
Auburn is in the mix with several five-star recruits in the 2025 class. Where we think the Tigers stand with each of the targets.
QB – Julian Lewis, Carrollton, Ga. (USC)
5/24/24 UPDATE: There has been growing chatter with Lewis in regards to Auburn in recent weeks. According to our intel, there is good reason for that. The Tigers are heavily in the mix to flip the USC commit. If we are going by official visits to determine who the top suitors are, then USC, Auburn, Indiana, and Colorado are his top four. By no means does it feel as though Auburn is running away with its momentum. USC has a real shot of holding on, Colorado has made strides in the last weeks, and there are connections at Indiana. Still, the Tigers did pick up some steam in April and hope to seize it when he officially visits on June 14.
NEW UPDATE: Lewis spoke highly of Auburn during the On3 Nashville event. He even told us that his hometown is expecting him to stay closer to home and land with Auburn (which he said was hard to ignore). Still, our intel points to Colorado and USC having slight edges at this time. Auburn is still heavily in the mix and by no means out of the running. There seems to be conflicting intel on which school is at the top. It is not clear who has the best shot at this time. Lewis will officially visit Auburn on June 14.
CB – Na’eem Offord, Birmingham, Ala., Parker (Ohio State)
5/24/24 UPDATE: Auburn sees Offord as one of the best athletes in the 2025 class, if not the best. According to our latest intel, the Tigers had a lot of ground to make up and have not begun to do so yet. At this time, we are labeling Auburn as somewhat of a non-factor here. The Tigers will continue to try to work back into it and get an official visit from here. For now, there is no indication that he will take one to Auburn.
NEW UPDATE: Our intel on Offord was very quiet before his official visit. In fact, it had gone completely dry. Then, Offord attended the On3 Elite Event in Nashville. He told Auburn Live that an Auburn visit would take place during the season. He quickly made a change to those plans and took his official visit this past weekend. The vibe around this recruitment has changed since the visit, but Auburn still has work to do. Either way, it is clear that the Tigers are much more in the picture than we initially thought. Don’t expect any change in his commitment status this summer.
WR – Caleb Cunningham, Ackerman, Miss., Choctaw County
5/24/24 UPDATE: Cunningham will take his official visit to Auburn on May 31. So far, three other official visits are known: Florida (June 7), Tennessee (June 14), and Alabama (June 21). Also, the in-state schools, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, are heavily involved as well. It is not clear where Auburn stands in this recruitment, but Cunningham continuously speaks highly of Auburn and consistently visits. More will certainly be learned about where the Tigers stand after his official visit takes place. Right now, it seems to be anyone’s ball game with the in-state schools potentially having the upper hand.
NEW UPDATE: Cunningham told the Auburn staff that they were number one on his list of schools. He then confirmed this to the media after his Auburn visit. Another trip to Ole Miss has already happened since that Auburn visit, but we continue to hear that Auburn holds a lead by more than one source. Holding on to that lead will be easier said than done, but the Tigers seem to have some confidence at this time. Cunningham will return for Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend.
OT – Andrew Babalola, Overland Park, Kan., Blue Valley Northwest
5/24/24 UPDATE: Babalola is fresh off of his Auburn official visit. Next up, he is scheduled to take official visits to Missouri (May31), Stanford (June 7), Michigan (June 14), and Oklahoma (June 21). According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, this very well may be coming down to the Tigers and the Cardinal. Our intel tracks with this and pointed toward Auburn having a better chance than most before the official visit took place. A decision timeline is unknown here, but will probably not drag too long after official visits take place. Auburn stands high, but can it outlast the academic prowess of Stanford? That is not clear yet. We may know more after the Stanford visit concludes.
NEW UPDATE: Babalola has visited Auburn and Missouri with Stanford up next. He is thought to be a Stanford lean at this time. However, communication is still ongoing with Auburn according to our intel. Also, it does not sound as though a true decision has been made, which probably bodes well for Auburn. The Tigers, though, will have to survive the official visit to Stanford.
OT – Josh Petty, Roswell, Ga. Fellowship Christian School
5/24/24 UPDATE: Petty will take his Auburn official visit on June 4, during the week. That is one of many official visits: Georgia Tech (May 28), Clemson (May 31), Tennessee (June 7), Stanford (June 10), Oregon (June 14), and Florida State (June 21). As of right now, the Seminoles are trending. At one point, Petty told Auburn Live and other outlets that his sister would be a big factor in his decision. His sister, who plays basketball, has chosen to play for Florida State. As of right now, our intel points to the Noles landing Petty.
NEW UPDATE: Petty and Auburn have agreed to not move forward with an official visit. We do not expect Auburn to be in the running any longer.
Edge – Isaiah Gibson, Warner Robins, Ga. (USC)
5/24/24 UPDATE: This one is interesting. Gibson is committed to USC, but the likelihood of that sticking feels to be low at this time. He currently does not have an official visit set up with the Trojans. Auburn will get an official visit on June 10. He has said that Auburn is the place he wants to see more of compared to his other schools. Other visits include Georgia (May 31), South Carolina (June 7), Tennessee (June 14), Ohio State (June 18), and Oklahoma (June 21). Gibson remains pretty open, it seems. However, there has been growing chatter with Georgia being able to land him. Auburn is certainly in the mix, too. His upcoming official visit will be very telling about where the Tigers stand.
NEW UPDATE: At this time, Gibson is still planning to take his official visit to Auburn on June 10. Georgia is the trending team at this time despite his commitment to USC. Auburn has a chance to try and get on the same level with Georgia on the official visit should he make it. As for now, we believe Auburn is behind Georgia for sure, and maybe others.
OT – Broderick Shull, Bixby, Okl.
5/24/24 UPDATE: Shull, an On3 five-star, has Auburn next on his official visit list (May 31). He has taken a Nebraska official visit and said the Huskers evened things up with Auburn at the top. Other than these two, Shull will also officially visit Texas Tech (June 14) and Texas A&M (June 21). As of right now, things are lining up nicely for Auburn. He and his mother were blown away by the first visit, immediately scheduled and official visit, and will return in the next week. The Tigers have put the full court press on Shull and hope to win him over during the official visit.
NEW UPDATE: Auburn did all it could do and then some on Shull’s official visit this past weekend. The Tigers knocked it out of the park. After more checking around, it seems clear that Auburn is the team to beat here for the potential On3 5-star.
