Mailbag: Discussing Kansas State football visitors
1. Does Kansas State finish 10-2 or 11-1?
DY: Actually, that might be the appropriate question. The over/under win total at the sportsbooks for Kansas State is 9.5. I’ll rock with 10-2 at the moment. Utah is the only great team in the league that the Wildcats avoid in 2024 and they do have a lot of impact players yet to make a considerable contribution.
You’re right, though. 11-1 is on the table. But so is less than 10 wins, to be clear.
2. Out of Lucas Allgeyer, Brock Heath and Keiton Jones, who do you like the most as a prospect and who has the highest ceiling?
DY: The highest ceiling is no contest. That’s Keiton Jones of Coffeyville. He just may not be the best prospect of the three because of how long it could take for him to reach his potential or how long it takes him to reach the field. Furthermore, the K-State target also has the lowest floor.
I like Lucas Allgeyer the best of the three, but I realize he and Brock Heath also play different positions. Kansas State has chased Allgeyer for the longest time.
3. Is Arthur Kaluma still a possibility for K-State?
DY: Yes, but as I’ve said for the duration of the process, Arthur Kaluma returning to K-State is not a certainty.
4. Who do you think could compete for serious playing time as a true freshman out of the potential commits in June?
DY: To answer this the best way possible, it is important to know which positions are conducive to true freshmen playing early in general and which spots at Kansas State may be available. Using that criteria, looking at defensive backs would be wise.
Serious Stinyard, Leo Almanza and JoJo Scott come to mind.
5. Would Linkon Cure be the most talented player ever to sign with Kansas State?
DY: He’d be the highest-ranked player that K-State has signed, I believe, at least at the high school level. He’s higher than Avery Johnson, for example. Linkon Cure probably attains five-star status at On3 at some point, too, though he’s already an industry-ranked five-star.
Talent-wise, there’s a debate because of the ranking. But probably not the most impactful just because of positional value.
6. Have you given up on Taj Manning gaining meaningful minutes?
DY: It will be hard for Taj Manning to break through this particular Kansas State roster, in my opinion.
7. Will K-State sign a single 2025 high school basketball recruit?
DY: A chance exists where K-State doesn’t, to be honest. They are not especially tied to anyone but perhaps Nigel Walls. He did visit Manhattan during the season, though. I’m sure there’s also hope they won’t need to add 8-10 new players again.
8. How many defensive tackles should Kansas State add in the 2025 class?
DY: One per cycle is about right.
You don’t want to go overboard at a spot that plays just one guy on the field at a time. So, you should keep the position stocked similarly to what you would the quarterback spot. 4-5 guys. I believe that’s what Kansas State is aiming for, and they have four relegated to the role right now.
