Georgia defensive back Daniel Harris arrested overnight in Athens
Georgia defensive back Daniel Harris was arrested Thursday night in Athens by Athens Clarke County Police for driving related charges including reckless driving, use of safety belts, operation of an unregistered vehicle without a license plate, no proof of insurance and affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield. All five charges are classified as misdemeanors, and after being booked at 10:40 p.m. ET, he was released on bond totaling $50 at 11:49 p.m ET.
A sophomore from South Florida, Harris has played in both games for Georgia this season. Harris has two tackles in both of the Bulldogs’ wins after competing for a starting spot at cornerback with Julian Humphrey. The two have been rotating opposite of Daylen Everette.
The former four-star product of Gulliver Prep (Miami, Fla.) made six appearances during his first season on campus, recording one tackle in the Orange Bowl victory over Florida State. Harris shared intentions to enter the transfer portal on social media prior to the game but ended up deciding to stick around in Athens for another year instead. On3 was highest on Harris coming out of high school, ranking him as the No. 55 overall player and No. 6 cornerback in the country.
Harris’ arrest is the latest in a list that includes the likes of Trevor Etienne, Smael Mondon, Sacovie White and Bo Hughley this offseason alone. Etienne served a one-game suspension in UGA’s season-opener after charges relating to a DUI were dropped but the one for reckless driving remained. Mondon and White both saw their respective reckless driving charges dropped while Hughley’s situation remains unsettled.
Harris’ status for Saturday’s trip to Kentucky remains uncertain, and an availability report shared Friday night could shed light on that. Should he be forced to stay in Athens, Georgia would likely relying heavier on five-star freshman and the top cornerback in the Class of 2024 Ellis Robinson should it continue to rotate the position.
