Joel Klatt ranks Top-10 teams in college football after Week 6
After four top-ranked teams fell this past weekend, several rankings across the country saw major changes, including the latest Top-10 from Joel Klatt.
Three teams in Klatt’s rating from last week lost, including two in the top-five. With that, he has an all-new top-five as of today along with one new team joining in at the final overall spot.

Here’s how the Top-10 from Klatt looks based on what he tweeted out earlier this afternoon:
1. Texas Longhorns
Texas didn’t even play this week on a bye but still returned to the No. 1 spot for Klatt.
With top-rated units on both sides of the ball, the Longhorns are undefeated at 5-0 after last weekend with their first-ever win in the SEC. The competition will now pick up for them in league play, though, including the first edition of the Red River Rivalry in their new conference for them and Oklahoma.
2. Ohio State Buckeyes

After a simple first four weeks with three games, Ohio State is now getting started at 5-0 following two wins to open play in the Big Ten.
The Buckeyes also have two of the top-ranked units on both sides of the football in the entire sport with how they’ve played to this point. Still, they too will a tough test, which will be their toughest yet over a span of the new few games, in a top-three matchup next weekend in Eugene.
3. Georgia Bulldogs
A week after their first regular-season loss in four years, Georgia is back in the top-three for Klatt.
The Bulldogs were back to it with a 31-13 win over Auburn to move to 4-1 after a so-so start in the conference. They’ll now have one more game between the hedges between them and a difficult back half of their season, which includes a start to that down on The 40 Acres in what’ll be a game between two of the best teams in the league and the nation.
4. Oregon Ducks
Oregon had cause for concern after their first two games against mid-major competition. However, over their last three, they’re proving themselves again as one of the best teams in the country.
The Ducks have won each of their last three, which came in a rivalry game and their first two in their new league, by an average margin of 25.7 points. That has them back in the top-three overall and the top-four in this ranking coming into next weekend’s highly-rated matchup with the Buckeyes.
5. Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State moved into the top-four overall and then rounded out the top-five this week for Klatt.
Despite being 5-0, the Nittany Lions casually crept up through the rankings during four games in Happy Valley. They’ll now be away for their next pair for the first time since the opener over the upcoming three weeks with the next being against USC in Los Angeles.

6. Alabama Crimson Tide
A week after becoming the No. 1 overall team for Klatt, Alabama took an all-time conference upset at Vanderbilt.
It’s about as confusing of a two-week stretch that you can imagine for the Crimson Tide with them having beaten Georgia in a classic before losing to the Commodores the following weekend. That brings up more thoughts about DeBoer and ‘Bama before a tough four-game stretch over their next five weeks.
7. Clemson Tigers
Despite an opening loss on their record, Klatt now has Clemson as the top-ranked team in the ACC.
Since that 31-point loss to Georgia, the Tigers have won four straight, including their first three in league play, by an average margin of 28 points. That sets them up from here as a leading challenger for their conference with a good chance to be back in Charlotte.
8. Miami Hurricanes

Miami finds itself a spot behind in-conference competition now after how their last two weeks have gone.
After a convincing start at 4-0, the Hurricanes have had a tough time getting to 6-0 with a four-point win over Virginia Tech that came to the final seconds and a one-point win at California where they were down as much as 25. That makes this a great time for their first bye week before the second half of their season.
9. Tennessee Volunteers
Almost no team had a better first four games than Tennessee. However, their fifth did not go well in Fayetteville last night in their first loss of the season.
With that, Klatt dropped them from fourth to eighth in his rankings. They’re still in contention, though, as the fourth-ranked team in the Southeastern Conference.
10. Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State is the lone representative for Klatt from out of the Big 12.
The Cyclones are 5-0, with an average margin of victory of over 21 points, after their first two wins in conference play that have them tied in a four-way tie for second in the league. Now, with an easier schedule than others before their final two, they are now one of many in position to be one of the pair to play for a playoff spot in Arlington.
