Credit Card Skimmer Discovered At Groton Grocery Store
GROTON, CT — A credit card skimming device was discovered at the Big Y store in Groton on Sept. 17, according to FOX 61.A company spokesperson told the station that there was a single device at one of the store's checkout counters.The store is working with law enforcement to find out who placed the device there.Big Y hasn't found any evidence of customer information being compromised but said they will contact anyone whose information they find has been stolen. Most skimmers fit over card readers but those at fuel pumps are usually attached to a machine’s internal wiring.This marks another instance of a credit card skimmer being found in a Connecticut store. Recently, another was found at a Dollar General in Norwich.The devices have also been discovered recently in Connecticut towns including East Windsor, Brooklyn, Montville, and New London.Last month, Town of Groton police said they checked multiple businesses for illegally installed credit and debit card skimming devices.
