Brittany Higgins announces birth of her first child with husband David Sharaz

Brittany Higgins has announced the birth of her first child with her husband David Sharaz.
In a heartwarming Instagram post, Higgins shared a photo of her newborn in the hospital, writing: “Last night we welcomed our little boy into the world.”
“A huge thank-you to the amazing midwives, nurses and doctors for their care and kindness.”
“We’re both looking forward to getting to dote on the newest member of the family — forever grateful for all the love and support we’ve received.”

Higgins’ post has been flooded with congratulations and well wishes for her new journey as a mother, including a comment from journalist Lisa Wilkinson, writing “Huge congratulations. ”, as well as Senator for South Australia Sarah Hanson-Young, human rights advocate Grace Forrest and Victorian MP Georgie Purcell.
The baby boy’s name is yet to be revealed.
In October last year, Higgins shared about a pregnancy scare she’d had, saying she had gone to get a blood test and learned her “baby had a high probability of a genetic disorder”, noting that the reason this concerned them was because it “could mean he may be incompatible with life outside of the womb”.
“After an amniocentesis and a seemingly never ending wait our prayers were answered. Our little guy is perfectly fine and healthy,” Higgins wrote, adding that “talking about it takes the stigma out of these very real (and common) circumstances that people are faced with when trying to start families.”
The news of her baby’s birth comes after Higgins first announced her pregnancy in July last year, sharing an image of baby clothes hanging on a closeline.
On Instagram, Higgins had written about her excitement to meet the little one, saying: ““Beyond excited to welcome a new member to our little family. Your parents are already obsessed with you and you aren’t even here yet.”
Higgins and Sharaz married on the Gold Coast in June last year, and they got engaged on New Year’s Eve in 2022, at Cape Byron lighthouse in Byron Bay.
The couple first met in 2020 while Higgins was a Liberal staffer and Sharaz was a producer for Sky News Australia.
An advocate for survivors of sexual assault, Higgins made global headlines in 2021 when she alleged she was sexually assaulted by her colleague, Bruce Lehrmann.
In 2024, a Federal Court judge found that former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann did – on the burden of proof required in a civil trial – rape Higgins in Parliament House in March 2019.
A few weeks ago, a NSW District Court judge handed a full-time prison sentence to a man who used social media to threaten to kill Higgins, her partner and her dog.
Sharing her relief over his sentencing, Higgins wrote on Instagram: “These sort of threats are never okay and have a real world impact on those who are on the receiving end. Big thank-you for all the support and we particularly wanted to mention the NSW police who handled this case with such care from start to finish.”
